So, the other day I was looking at my trees, and I noticed some weird bumps on them. At first, I thought, “Oh no, what’s wrong with my trees?” But then I remembered reading something about these bumps, called “burls.”
I started checking out these burls, and they were pretty cool looking. They’re like these big, round growths on the trunk or branches. They look kind of like giant warts, but in a cool way, you know?
I did some more digging, and it turns out these burls are actually caused by some kind of stress to the tree. It could be from an injury, a virus, or even some kind of fungus. The tree basically goes into overdrive producing wood to protect itself, and that’s what makes the burl.
I walked around my garden and found that there are actually quite a few trees with burls. Some are small, and some are huge! I even saw one that was almost as big as my head! I took lots of photos to study them.
- They have a unique appearance.
- They can be large or small.
- They can be found on all parts of a tree.
I was worried at first that these burls might be hurting my trees. But from what I read, they usually don’t do any real damage. The tree can still grow and be healthy, even with a big burl on it. So, that was a relief.
It’s kind of crazy to think that these weird growths are actually a sign of the tree being tough and resilient. It’s like the tree is saying, “Hey, you might have hurt me, but I’m still going strong!”
My Burl Discoveries
I decided to keep an eye on the burls in my garden and see how they change over time. It’s like having a little nature experiment right in my backyard. I marked a few, took some notes and observed.
And you know what? I actually started to appreciate these burls. They make each tree unique and add a bit of character to the garden. I even found myself showing them off to my friends when they come over. They’re like, “Whoa, what are those things?” And I get to tell them all about my cool tree burls.
The garden is filled with burls, and I realized that they make my trees special. I am happy to see them there!
