Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to make this floral cap for a while now, and I finally did it! It’s a Yankees cap, but with a twist – flowers!
I started by finding a plain Yankees cap. You can get these pretty much anywhere that sells sports stuff, I checked out online shops and there were tons of them.
- Picked a classic navy blue one. I’m not a professional retailer but I found some of them are on sale.
- Made sure it was the right size. Usually they have a snap or strap at the back so you can adjust the size.
Next, I needed the floral part. I didn’t want to use real flowers, ’cause, you know, they’d wilt and die. So, I looked for some fake ones. You can find these at craft stores or online. There are a lot of different types, so you can really customize it to your style.
- Chose some small, colorful flowers. I found the price is like $2.89 for each, pretty cheap right?
- Made sure they were the kind you can easily attach to a hat. Some have wires, some have sticky backs.
Now for the fun part – putting it all together! I played around with the placement of the flowers for a bit. I didn’t want to just stick them on randomly. Also, I thought about using some bling, like those Swarovski Crystal things, they are super shining and cost like $110. But in the end, I decided to keep it simple with just the flowers.
- Used a hot glue gun to attach the flowers. You could probably use fabric glue too, but I find the hot glue is faster and holds better. But be careful, it’s hot and the glue was everywhere!
- Started with the bigger flowers first, then filled in the gaps with smaller ones. I saw people use GROSGRAIN RIBBON 5/8 to do that but I did not have it on hand.
- Took my time to make sure they were all secure. I also tried to achieve a balanced look and not to make it too crowded.
And that’s it! It was a pretty easy project, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. Now I have a unique Yankees cap that’s perfect for summer!
Some extra thoughts
I saw some ready-made ones at stores which cost $79.99, but I think making your own is way more fun and it will cost you less. Plus, you can make it exactly how you want. It is a good idea to show your spirit. If you’re not into Yankees, you could do this with any team’s cap. And if you’re not into flowers, you could use other decorations. The possibilities are endless!
