Getting Overwatch 2 Running on My Macbook
Okay, so I really wanted to play Overwatch 2. Problem is, I mostly use my Macbook for everything. And, well, Blizzard didn’t make a Mac version. Found that out pretty quick.

First thought was, there’s gotta be a way, right? Started digging around. Lots of people talking online. Seemed like the main deal, if you had an older Intel Macbook like mine, was something called Boot Camp.
The idea with Boot Camp is basically splitting your Mac’s hard drive. You make a section just for Windows. Then you can start up your Mac in either macOS or Windows. Sounded like a plan. A bit of a hassle, maybe, but a plan.
The Boot Camp Adventure
So, I decided to give it a shot. Here’s what I did:
- First, I had to get a copy of Windows. Found an ISO file for Windows 10.
- Then I opened up the Boot Camp Assistant tool that’s already on the Mac. It’s in the Utilities folder.
- The Assistant thing guides you. You tell it where the Windows ISO file is.
- Big step: Deciding how much space to give Windows. I wasn’t sure, Overwatch 2 isn’t tiny, plus Windows itself needs room. I gave it a decent chunk, maybe like 100GB? More? Can’t recall exactly, just wanted to be safe. Sacrificed some Mac space.
- The Assistant does its thing, partitioning the drive. Takes a while. Computer restarts.
- Then it boots into the Windows installer. Went through all the standard Windows setup steps. More waiting.
- Once Windows was installed, the Boot Camp installer popped up automatically. This is important, it installs all the special drivers so Windows can work properly with the Mac hardware – keyboard, trackpad, graphics, all that stuff. This also took some time and another restart or two.
Installing and Playing the Game
Alright, so now I had Windows running on my Macbook. Felt weird, but okay. Next steps:
Downloaded the * launcher. Installed that, logged into my account. Felt more familiar.
Found Overwatch 2 in the launcher. Hit install. Waited again. Game downloads are never fast enough.
Finally, it was done. Held my breath and clicked ‘Play’.
It launched! Took a moment, but there it was, the Overwatch 2 menu screen. On my Macbook.

Had to fiddle with the graphics settings, of course. Couldn’t just crank everything to ultra on a Macbook Pro’s hardware, even running Windows. Lowered some settings, aimed for a decent frame rate. It ran smoother than I expected, actually. Playable, definitely.
One thing to remember: When I want to play, I have to restart the Mac, hold down the Option key during startup, and choose the Windows partition (often called BOOTCAMP). Then, when I’m done, I restart again and let it boot back into macOS normally (or hold Option and choose Macintosh HD).
Heard some people talk about streaming the game from another Windows PC using stuff like Parsec. Said the delay wasn’t too bad. Tried that briefly once before Boot Camp, just to see. It worked, yeah, but I kinda wanted the game installed directly if possible. Felt cleaner. Boot Camp felt like the more direct route for my Intel Mac.
So, yeah. It’s doable. A bit of a process setting up Boot Camp, partitioning the drive, installing Windows and all the drivers. But once it’s set up, Overwatch 2 runs okay on my Intel Macbook. It’s not native, it’s Windows on Mac hardware, but hey, it works. I can play.
