So, someone mentioned “savannah bananas isotopes” the other day. Sounded weird, right? Like some kinda radioactive fruit or something they’d make up in a cartoon.

I actually spent a bit of time scratching my head. Looked it up, couldn’t find anything really connecting them directly. Just the two separate things. Savannah Bananas, yeah, everyone’s seen those guys online. Doing dances, weird rules, looks like a blast, totally different from regular baseball.
Then there’s the Isotopes. That’s the team down in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The minor league club. Got their name from The Simpsons, which is kinda cool they actually did that. So, yeah, two different baseball outfits. One’s pure entertainment, the other’s a standard minor league team with a TV show name.
Thinking About It…
Thinking about these two teams, the Bananas and the Isotopes, actually made me remember this trip I tried putting together a while back. Wasn’t even to see them, but it had that same feeling of things getting mixed up. I was trying to plan this big road trip, catch a couple of different games in different cities, you know? Had it all worked out in my head.
Part of the plan involved booking tickets for a game in Portland. Sounds easy? Wrong. Found out the hard way there’s Portland, Maine, and Portland, Oregon. Both have minor league teams. And guess which one I booked the non-refundable tickets for? Yeah, the wrong one. Didn’t catch it until it was way too late.
- I checked the team name: Yep, looked right.
- I checked the game date: Seemed fine.
- I forgot to really check the state: That was the kicker. Big oops.
That one mistake pretty much blew up the whole plan. Flights were booked heading west, game tickets were for the east coast. What a mess. Had to cancel a chunk of the trip and mostly just stayed closer to home. Lost cash on those useless tickets too, which always bites.
It’s funny how things like that work out, or don’t. You think everything’s set, then one small detail just messes it all up. Like maybe someone hearing “Savannah Bananas Isotopes” and picturing one single team, showing up expecting crazy Banana Ball but getting a regular game, or the other way around. Names get confusing, plans fall apart. Just gotta deal with it, I suppose. But man, that whole Portland screw-up still gets me sometimes.
