Okay, so today I wanted to figure out who this “Nicolas” guy was, the one directing the NYT Crossword. I’d heard some buzz about a new direction for the puzzles, and I was curious.

First, I just did a simple search. Typed in “nicolas nyt crossword director” and hoped for the best. I got a bunch of results, but a lot of them were just about individual puzzles or crossword constructors. Nothing really about a “director” named Nicolas.
Digging Deeper
So, I started to get a little more specific with how I looked. I started browsing crossword blogs and forums. I figured, if anyone knows what’s going on, it’s the hardcore crossword people, right?
I spent a good chunk of time, maybe an hour or two, just going through different threads and posts. People were talking about the puzzles changing, some liked it, some didn’t. But there was no consensus of any single person called “Nicolas” being the director.
Trying a different track
After being frustrated by various forums I decided to refine search term, this time I tried”NYT Crossword leadership”. Still, it kept leading me back to articles about Will Shortz, who’s been the editor for ages.
What I ended up with
Honestly, I couldn’t nail down a single “Nicolas” running the show. It seems like the crossword is still with Will Shortz in charge, the crossword editor, and has a team behind it. There may be someone named Nicolas on the team, but not as the director.
So, my little investigation didn’t exactly pan out the way I thought. But, hey, that’s how it goes sometimes. I’m still going to keep an eye on those NYT Crosswords, though. I’m always up for a good puzzle challenge!
