My Trip Down to Puerto Rico
So, I finally decided to take that trip to Puerto Rico I’d been thinking about for ages. Booked the flight, packed a bag, mostly shorts and t-shirts, you know the drill. Didn’t really have a solid plan, just wanted to get away and see what the island was like.
Landed in San Juan, grabbed my rental car. Driving there was… an experience. Let’s just say the horns get a workout. Found my little Airbnb in the Ocean Park area, not too fancy, but close enough to the beach. First thing I did? Head straight for the water. That warmth hitting you, it’s just different.
Spent the first couple of days just exploring San Juan. Walked all over Old San Juan, those colorful buildings and cobblestone streets are really something. Saw El Morro, Castillo San Cristobal, all that historic stuff. It’s impressive, makes you think about all the history that happened right there.
What I remember most, though, was the vibe.
- Walking around, grabbing street food – pinchos, mofongo, all that good stuff.
- Sitting at beachside bars, just watching the waves.
- Driving around with the windows down.
And here’s the funny thing, seemed like everywhere I went, I kept hearing Drake. Like, his music was just there. Blasting from cars driving by, playing in some of the shops, definitely in a few bars along the beach. Wasn’t expecting it, but it kinda became part of the soundtrack for my trip, you know? Just this background beat while I was soaking everything in. Not complaining, just an observation. It was like a constant, low-key party vibe in some places.
Drove out to El Yunque rainforest one day. Did some hiking, saw the waterfalls. Totally different world from the city and the beach. So green, so lush. Got caught in a quick rain shower, which apparently happens all the time there. Cooled things off nicely.
Also made a point to visit Luquillo beach. Heard it was nice and calm, and it was. Just relaxed there for a whole afternoon. Bought some cheap sunglasses from a beach vendor because I forgot mine. Classic move.
Wrapping it Up
Spent about a week there. It wasn’t some perfectly planned itinerary. Mostly just wandered, ate, relaxed on beaches, and took in the sights and sounds. Puerto Rico’s got a unique energy. The mix of history, nature, and yeah, even the music I kept hearing everywhere, including Drake’s stuff, it all blended together for me. Headed home feeling recharged. Good trip, glad I finally did it.
