Okay, so I’ve been trying to get better at golf, and let me tell you, it’s not as easy as it looks on TV. I saw a couple of pro golfers, like Scottie Scheffler and Billy Horschel, wearing these black bands on their upper arms. I thought, “What the heck is that?” So I did some digging.
Turns out, it’s called a golf arm band, and apparently, it’s supposed to help with your swing. My swing is all over the place, so I figured, why not give it a shot? I ordered one online – it felt a little weird, like a big rubber band for your arm.
The first time I tried it was at the driving range. I slipped the band onto my right arm since I am right-handed. You are supposed to wear it on your lead arm which is the right arm for a right-handed golfer. The idea is that it helps keep your arms connected during the swing, which is supposed to lead to more consistency. I took a few practice swings, and honestly, it felt pretty awkward. I felt like a robot or something.
- Putting: I started with putting. Honestly, the band didn’t make a huge difference here. My putting is okay to begin with, so maybe that’s why.
- Chipping and Pitching: This is where I started to notice something. With the band on, it felt like my arms were working together more. My chips were a little more controlled, and I wasn’t chunking the ball as often.
- Full Swings: This was the real test. My full swing is where I struggle the most. With the band, I had a really hard time. After a while I started to feel more of a connection with my right arm.
I practiced with the band for a few weeks, I did use it every time I went to the driving range or played a round. It felt strange, and I got some weird looks from other golfers, but hey, I was willing to try anything.
After a while, I did start to notice some improvement, especially with my chipping and pitching. My full swing was still a work in progress, but I felt like I was making better contact with the ball. I can see why the pros use it. I mean, those guys are machines. They probably use all kinds of gadgets to perfect their game.
So, is the golf arm band a miracle cure? Nah. But I think it can be a useful tool, especially if you’re struggling to keep your arms connected during your swing. It’s not going to magically transform you into a pro overnight, but it might help you develop some better habits. I’ll probably keep using it for a while and see where it takes me. It’s worth noting that many people have been playing golf ask these questions. You need to hit the ball with something. I want you to play your best golf. Maybe the golf arm band is one of the essentials.
I just want to make it clear that golf is a very traditional sport and my purpose here is to give you the basics. That is what I’ve learned about the arm band.
Who knows, maybe I’ll be the next Scottie Scheffler… just kidding. But hey, a guy can dream, right?
