My Process for Picking a Russell Wilson Fantasy Team Name
Alright, so fantasy football season was rolling around again, and like every year, the most important pre-draft ritual began: figuring out a team name. This year, I had my eye on Russell Wilson, or maybe I’d already drafted him, can’t quite recall exactly which came first, but the point is, I wanted a name centered around him.

So, I sat down, cracked open a drink, and just started thinking. What comes to mind with Russell Wilson? First thing, obviously, his name. Russell. Wilson. Okay, pretty basic starting point.
Then I thought about his catchphrases or things associated with him. That whole “Let Russ Cook” thing was huge for a while. That definitely went on the list. Also, “Dangeruss” – that nickname he had? Sounded pretty cool, potential there.
I started mixing and matching. Just simple stuff first.
- Wilson Winners
- Team Russell
- Russ’s Crew
Felt a bit bland, you know? Gotta have some personality. So I moved onto the catchphrases and nicknames.
- Let Russ Cook
- Dangeruss Zone
- Just Dangeruss
- Cooking with Russ
Getting warmer. I liked “Dangeruss” – short, punchy. “Let Russ Cook” is solid too, but maybe a lot of people would use that one. I wanted something a little more unique, if possible.
Then I started thinking about puns, ’cause who doesn’t love a good (or bad) fantasy football pun?
- Russell Sprouts (A bit goofy, maybe?)
- Russell Hustle Muscle (Getting wordy)
- Every Kiss Begins With Russ (Okay, that one made me chuckle, but maybe too out there)
- Trust in Russ
I wrote down the ones I kinda liked. Had a short list going. I considered his teams too. When he was in Seattle, maybe something like “Legion of Russ”? Or Denver, “Mile High Cooking”? But he moves around, so maybe tying it to a team wasn’t the best long-term plan unless you’re a die-hard fan of that specific team.
Decision time. I looked over my scribbled notes. “Dangeruss” kept standing out. It just sounded like a solid fantasy name. “Let Russ Cook” was a close second, a classic for a reason. “Russell Sprouts” was my funny option if I felt like being silly.

In the end, I think I actually went with Dangeruss that year. It felt like a good mix of cool and relevant to the player. It wasn’t too complicated, easy for the league to remember. Felt good locking that in before the draft started. Just part of the fun, right?
