Alright, listen up, y’all. You wanna go see that golf thingy, the U.S. Open, in Pinehurst, right? Well, you gotta find a place to lay your head, ain’t that right? Don’t go wanderin’ around like a lost calf, I’ll tell ya where to look.
First off, you got them fancy hotels. The Pinehurst Resort, they call it. Sounds highfalutin, and it probably is. They got this big hotel, The Grand Carolina, real pretty-like, I hear. Lots of rooms and all that, but probably costs a pretty penny. They got other places too, like The Manor, Holly, and The Magnolia Inn. All them places sound like somethin’ out of a picture book, but I bet they charge an arm and a leg. If you got the money, go ahead, be my guest. But if you’re like me, tryin’ to stretch a dollar, keep listenin’.
Now, there’s other ways to find a place, ya know? My grandson, he’s always fiddlin’ with that computer thingy. He showed me these websites, said they can find you deals. One’s called Vrbo. Sounds like a funny name, but they got houses and stuff you can rent. Said you can even bring your dog, if you got one of them critters. That’s good, I guess, if you don’t wanna leave ol’ Buster at home.
- Vrbo: They got houses, pet-friendly places, all sorts of stuff.
- Kayak: This one’s for cheap hotels, they say. Good if you ain’t got much money to spend.
- Another one for findin’ places. They say they got lots to choose from.
- Tripadvisor: This one, they say, compares prices, so you don’t get ripped off. They also talk about pools and that Wi-Fi thing, if you need that.
My grandson said somethin’ about “deals” and “discounts.” Said you can get a room for cheap sometimes, like 22 bucks a night. Can you believe that? But you gotta be quick, he said, ’cause them deals go fast. He said somethin’ about “four-star at two-star prices.” I don’t know what that means, but it sounds like a good thing. He said to look for “free upgrades” too. Whatever that is. Kids these days with their fancy talk.
Anyways, Pinehurst, it’s down in Moore County, in the Sandhills, they call it. Been around for a long time, that place. They call that big hotel the “Queen of the South.” Sounds fancy, huh? They got verandas and lobbies, all that stuff. If you wanna feel like a king or a queen, go ahead and stay there. But me? I’d rather save my money for somethin’ else. Maybe a nice plate of grits and some fried chicken.
So, there you have it. You wanna stay near that golf thingy, you got choices. You can go fancy or you can go cheap. Just don’t go sleepin’ in your car, that ain’t right. Find yourself a decent place, get some rest, and enjoy that golf game. And don’t forget to eat some good southern food while you’re there. That’s the important part, if you ask me.
One more thing, that grandson of mine, he said to tell ya to “book now” and don’t wait. Said places fill up fast, specially when that golf thingy is goin’ on. So, get to it, y’all. Find yourself a place and have a good time.
And remember, whether you’re stayin’ in a fancy hotel or a little ol’ house, it’s the company you keep that matters. So, bring your friends, bring your family, and have a good time watchin’ them fellas hit them little white balls around.
Now, go on and book your stay. And don’t come cryin’ to me if you wait too long and everything’s full. I told ya what to do!
