Alright, let’s talk about what I actually wore to the U.S. Open Golf thing. It was trickier than I thought!

First off, I did some digging. Checked out the U.S. Open website, scanned some golf fashion blogs, you know, the usual. The vibe seemed to be “smart casual” but with a bit of an outdoorsy twist. I started by looking at the weather forecast – hot and sunny. Crucial info!
Next, I hit my closet. Started pulling out options:
- Khaki shorts: Seemed like a safe bet, but kinda boring.
- Navy chinos: More dressy, but maybe too hot?
- Polo shirts: A classic, but which color?
- Button-down shirts: Could work, but might be too stuffy.
Okay, so I tried on a few combinations. The khaki shorts with a light blue polo shirt felt… meh. The navy chinos with a white button-down were too formal. I needed something in between.
Then, I remembered this pair of light grey golf pants I got on sale a while back. They’re lightweight and breathable, perfect for the heat. I paired them with a dark green polo shirt. Immediately felt better. It was comfortable, stylish, and appropriate.
Shoes were easy. I have these brown leather loafers that are super comfy and look decent. Sneakers would have been too casual, and dress shoes would have been overkill.
Accessories were next. Sunglasses are a must, obviously. I grabbed my trusty Ray-Bans. Then, a baseball cap to keep the sun off my face. A simple navy one did the trick. And finally, a light sweater tied around my shoulders, just in case it got chilly in the evening.
So, the final outfit:
- Light grey golf pants
- Dark green polo shirt
- Brown leather loafers
- Ray-Ban sunglasses
- Navy baseball cap
- Light sweater
I gotta say, I felt pretty good in it. Not too overdressed, not too underdressed. Just right.

Once I got there, I saw all kinds of outfits. Some people were super dressed up, some were super casual. But I felt like I nailed the middle ground. I saw a lot of other guys wearing similar outfits, so I knew I was on the right track.
Lessons Learned:
- Check the weather.
- Comfort is key. You’ll be doing a lot of walking.
- Err on the side of slightly dressier.
- Don’t be afraid to experiment with different combinations.
All in all, it was a fun day, and I didn’t feel out of place at all. Plus, I actually got a few compliments on my outfit, which is always a bonus! So yeah, that’s the story of what I wore to the U.S. Open golf. Hope it helps you figure out what to wear if you ever go!
