Okay, here’s my blog post about coming up with some bourbon-themed fantasy football names. It’s all about how I brainstormed, what I considered, and the final contenders.

Alright, so it’s that time of year again – fantasy football season! And you know what that means… it’s time to come up with a killer team name. Now, I’m a big bourbon guy, so I decided to theme my team around my favorite spirit. Figured I’d share my process, ’cause why not?
Step 1: Brainstorming and Word Association
First thing I did was just start writing down anything and everything bourbon-related. I literally just opened a Google Doc and started typing. I was thinking about:
- Different bourbon brands: Maker’s Mark, Woodford Reserve, Buffalo Trace, etc.
- Bourbon terminology: Mash bill, rickhouse, proof, single barrel.
- Things that go well with bourbon: Manhattans, Old Fashioneds, cigars, etc.
- Kentucky stuff: Horses, bluegrass, the Derby.
Just dumped it all out there. No filter, no editing. Just letting the ideas flow.
Step 2: The Humor Filter
Okay, raw material in hand, now it’s time to make it funny. Fantasy football is supposed to be fun, right? So, I started looking at my list and trying to find ways to twist things into puns or jokes. This is where it got interesting.
I tried to combine player names with bourbon terms. For example, if I drafted a player named “Chase,” I might try something like “Chasin’ Buffalo Trace.” Corny, I know, but you gotta start somewhere. Or if I had someone named “Will” something like “Will It Barrel?”.
Step 3: The “Will This Offend Anyone?” Check

Alright, let’s be real. Some bourbon names could be a little… much. I tried to avoid anything that was even remotely close to being offensive or in bad taste. Keep it light, keep it fun. This is just a silly football league, after all.
Step 4: The Shortlist
After a solid hour of messing around, I narrowed it down to a few contenders. Here’s what I was considering:
- Blanton’s Bombers: Classic, simple, references a solid bourbon.
- The Woodford Maulers: A bit more aggressive, but still works.
- Buffalo Traced: Kind of a play on words, suggesting being lost or defeated.
The Final Decision
In the end, I went with Blanton’s Bombers. It just felt right. It’s recognizable, it’s easy to say, and it sounds kind of cool, if I do say so myself. Plus, Blanton’s is a damn fine bourbon. I just liked the way it sounded. Solid and to the point, and I can picture it on a championship banner (hopefully!).
So there you have it. My bourbon-fueled journey to a fantasy football team name. Hopefully, it inspires you to come up with something awesome for your own league. Cheers, and good luck this season!
