Alright, let’s talk about Tony Romo’s playoff record. This is something I’ve looked into quite a bit, just out of my own curiosity as a football fan.
So, I started by digging up some basic stats. What I found was that Romo’s playoff record is 2-4. Not exactly stellar, right? But it got me thinking, there’s gotta be more to the story than just those six games.
I decided to dive a little deeper. I started looking into how many times he even made it to the playoffs. Turns out, Romo led the Cowboys to the postseason four times. And get this, he made the Pro Bowl in each of those seasons. Not too shabby, huh?
Then I remembered that whole thing about him losing his starting job to Dak Prescott after getting injured in 2016. That’s when he decided to hang up his cleats. That was the end of his story.
But I still wasn’t satisfied. I wanted to see how those playoff losses broke down. So, I went back to the records. He won two games in the Wild Card round, but then lost all four times he made it to the Divisional Round. That’s rough. He never did get a Super Bowl ring.
I compared his playoff record to Dak Prescott’s which is 2-5. It looks like Dak’s not doing much better in the postseason.
I also found out that he had three chances to go to an NFC Championship Game. Imagine being that close and never making it.
I also stumbled upon his passer rating in the playoffs, which was 93.0. And he threw for 1,316 yards. Decent numbers, but obviously not enough to get those big wins.
I also looked at his whole career and saw that he has the record for passing yards and touchdowns for the Cowboys. Pretty impressive, even if it didn’t translate to playoff success.
Then I checked out his stats against teams that actually made the playoffs during the regular season. I figured that might give a better idea of how he performed against tougher competition. I didn’t write down that one.
At the end of the day, I guess what I realized is that Tony Romo’s career, especially in the playoffs, is a bit of a mixed bag. He had some great moments and some real disappointments. And that’s just football, I guess.
