Okay, so I saw Jamahal Hill’s chest piece, right? That big ‘SILENCE’ tattoo. First time I clocked it, I kinda stopped. Bold move. Seriously big statement right there on his chest.

My First Thought
My immediate thought wasn’t even about getting the same thing. Nah, that’s his thing. But it got me thinking, you know? About how tattoos can be like billboards for what you’re about. Or maybe what you want people to think you’re about.
I actually went through a phase. Looked into getting some big chest piece myself. Not ‘SILENCE’, but something meaningful, you know? Spent ages sketching stuff out. Drove my local tattoo guy nuts, probably. I’d go in, show him my scribbles, talk big plans. Then I’d walk out and kinda chicken out.
- Thinking about the pain.
- Thinking about the cost.
- Thinking if I’d still like it in 10 years.
It’s funny. Seeing Hill rock that ‘SILENCE’ so confidently made me remember all that back and forth I did. He just went for it. Maybe that’s the fighter mentality, huh? Less overthinking, more doing.
I remember one design I was really stuck on. It was this intricate thing, kinda tribal, kinda abstract. Spent weeks perfecting the drawing. Then I saw this old dude at the gym, massive faded dragon on his chest, looked kinda blurry. And I just thought… maybe simple is better? Or maybe no tattoo is also fine.
So yeah, Jamahal Hill’s tattoo. Didn’t make me run out and get inked. But it definitely kicked off a whole train of thought. Made me look back at my own little tattoo saga, or lack thereof. Still got those sketches somewhere, though. Maybe one day. Or maybe not. Who knows. That’s just how it goes sometimes, right? You see something, it makes you think about your own stuff. Simple as that.
