Well, let me tell you, this whole softball transfer portal list thing is a real head-scratcher. Back in my day, you stuck with your team, come rain or shine. Now, these young gals are hoppin’ around like grasshoppers in a hot skillet. This here list, it’s longer than a country mile, I tell ya!
They got this thing, see, called a “transfer portal.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? But it’s just a list, really. A list of all them softball players who wanna switch teams. They put their names in, and poof! They’re on the list. Coaches from other teams, they all come lookin’, like a bunch of hungry hogs at the trough.
I heard them say this portal thing, it opened up back in May. May 19th, I reckon. That is what they said. Don’t ask me, I don’t know. Now all them girls, they can just up and leave their teams. It is Division I, II, III, whatever that means. Doesn’t seem right to me. Loyalty, that’s what’s important. You stick with your own, through thick and thin.
Now, who can see this here list? Well, not just anybody. You gotta be a big shot, a coach or somethin’. They call ’em “administrators.” Sounds important, don’t it? They’re the only ones who can peek at this softball transfer portal list. Regular folks like you and me, we can’t see nothin’.
It is not public! Only them people who work at schools can see it. Big schools, mind you. NCAA, I don’t know what is this, but it’s big. These fellas have access, that’s what I heard. Once a girl’s name on that list, every coach can see it. It’s like puttin’ your name on a big ol’ billboard for everyone to see.
- First, they put their name in the portal.
- Then, all the coaches see it.
- Then, they start callin’ and offerin’ things.
- Then, the girl picks a new team.
And let me tell ya, there’s a whole heap of ’em jumpin’ ship. More and more every year. Thousands, I hear! Back in 2021, they say it was around 1,946 of them football boys switching teams. Now they say it is over 2,707 now. Can you believe that? And that’s just the football fellas. Softball is probably the same. More girls switchin’ than you can shake a stick at.
They say these girls, they got all sorts of reasons for leavin’. Maybe they ain’t gettin’ enough playin’ time. Maybe they don’t like the coach. Maybe they just want somethin’ new. Who knows? Young folks these days, they’re always changin’ their minds.
This softball transfer portal list, it is a big deal now. The number of them players, it just keeps goin’ up and up. Over 11,000 football players, all divisions, went into the portal, they say. It’s a crazy world, ain’t it?
I remember one time, there was this girl, played for the local team. Good player, she was. But she wasn’t happy. Wanted to go to a bigger school. So, she put her name in that portal thing. Next thing you know, she’s packin’ her bags and headin’ off to some fancy college.
Another thing, they have this “window”. Sounds like somethin’ you’d look out of, don’t it? But it’s just a time, a certain time when they can put their names in that portal. It’s like a sale at the general store. Only open for a little while.
They say this portal is good for the players. Gives ’em more choices, they say. Maybe so. But I still think it’s a shame. All this hoppin’ around. Ain’t no loyalty anymore.
Here is what I think about this transfer portal:
- It’s confusing.
- Too many girls are doing it.
- It ain’t right to leave your team.
- Coaches are like vultures.
This whole softball transfer portal list is somethin’ else. I don’t know what this world is comin’ to. In my day, if a girl is not happy on the team, she should talk to the coach. Not just run away to another team. But things are different now, I reckon. Kids these days just don’t have the same grit. This portal list thing is just a sign of the times, I suppose. A sign of the times.
