Yesterday, I felt like challenging myself a bit, so I decided to tackle a crossword puzzle. The theme of the puzzle was “war horse”. I’m not a huge history buff, but I figured it would be a good way to learn something new while testing my vocabulary.
I grabbed my phone and opened up the crossword app I usually use. This one was from the Universal Crossword, dated December 17th. I started filling in the blanks, some of the clues were pretty easy. But then I hit a wall. There were a few clues specifically about war horses that I had absolutely no idea about.
So, I did what any normal person would do – I turned to the internet. I started searching for things like “war horse crossword clue” and browsed through a few different websites that had lists of possible answers. One site mentioned that they had found 41 possible answers for that type of clue! Can you believe it? 41! Another one narrowed it down to just two, which seemed a bit more manageable.
- I saw some websites mentioned that the clue “war horse” had been spotted over 20 times in different crossword puzzles.
- Others said it was more like 13 times.
- But the most interesting thing I found was that there are actually a lot of different words that can be used to describe a war horse.
I learned that “STEED” is a common 5-letter answer, and then there’s “CHARGER” which is another word for a war horse. I guess it makes sense, war horses are big and strong, bred for battle.
After a bit of digging, I finally managed to fill in all the blanks in the puzzle. It was a good feeling! It wasn’t the hardest crossword I’ve ever done, but it definitely taught me a few new things. Plus, now I know a bunch of words for war horses, which might come in handy someday, you never know.
Anyway, that was my little adventure with the “war horse” crossword. It was a fun way to kill some time and exercise my brain a bit. If you’re into crosswords, maybe you’ve seen this clue before. And if you’re not, maybe give it a try sometime. You might learn something new!
