Okay, so I’ve been messing around with different formations in, like, you know, that soccer game. And I wanted to really nail down a solid Spurs setup. I’ve tried a bunch, but here’s what I’ve been working on and how I got there.
![Spurs formation analysis: what is working and whats not ?](https://www.darkscape.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/662961555b49c5b59bbdfb568f4fd9e0.png)
Experimenting Phase
First, I started with the default formations, you know, the 4-3-3, the 4-4-2, all the usual suspects. I played a few matches with each, just to get a feel for them. I noticed that while the 4-3-3 was okay for attacking, I was getting caught out on the counter a lot. The 4-4-2 felt too… basic, I guess? I needed something with a bit more oomph.
I even tried some wacky ones, like a 3-5-2, just for kicks. Let’s just say that didn’t go so well. My defense was all over the place. It was a mess!
Finding the Sweet Spot
Then, I stumbled upon the 4-2-3-1 formation. This one felt promising. I liked having those two defensive midfielders sitting in front of the back four. It gave me a lot more security when the other team was attacking.
- I put Son Heung-min up top as the striker. He’s fast and a great finisher, so that was a no-brainer.
- Then, I had Richarlison, and Kulusevski behind him in the attacking midfield roles.
- I use Bentancur,Hojbjerg as my two holding central defense midfielders.
Fine-Tuning the Tactics
It wasn’t just about the formation, though. I also spent some time tweaking the tactics. I set my team to play a more possession-based style, because, well, Spurs should be able to keep the ball. I also made sure my full-backs weren’t bombing forward all the time. I wanted them to be a bit more disciplined, you know?
I played a bunch more matches, adjusting things here and there. I noticed I was still conceding a few too many goals from crosses, so I worked on getting my defenders to mark tighter in the box.
The Result
After all that tinkering, I think I’ve finally found a formation and tactic setup that works pretty well for Spurs. It’s not perfect, of course, there are no magic setting, and every single match is different. But I’m winning more games than I’m losing, and I’m actually enjoying playing with them! That 4-2-3-1, with the right tweaks, seems to be the key. At least, for now, it is… I might change my mind next week, who knows!
