Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this thing called SAM PuttLab, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a journey. I figured I’d share my experience, from start to finish, in case anyone else is thinking about diving in.

Getting Started
First off, I unboxed the whole thing. It came with a bunch of sensors, cables, and this main unit. Honestly, it looked a little intimidating at first. I followed the instructions – which, thankfully, were pretty straightforward – and got everything connected. This involved plugging sensors into the putter, connecting cables to the main unit, and then hooking the whole thing up to my computer.
The Software Side
Next up was the software. I installed the program from their website, and after a bit of fiddling with settings (mostly just making sure it recognized all the sensors), I was ready to go. The interface itself is… well, it’s functional. It’s not the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen, but it gets the job done. I spent some time just poking around, clicking on different menus and trying to figure out what everything did.
Actually Using It
Now for the fun part – actually using the thing! I set up my putting mat, grabbed my putter, and started taking some strokes. The software tracked everything – face angle, path, impact spot, you name it. It was pretty cool to see all that data pop up on the screen in real-time. I did a few practice sessions, just trying to get a feel for the system and understanding what all the numbers meant.
Data Overload (and then, understanding)
Initially, I was a little overwhelmed by all the information. There are so many graphs and charts! But, I took my time, read through some of the help files, and slowly started to make sense of it all. I focused on a few key metrics at first, like face angle at impact, and tried to make small adjustments to my stroke based on the feedback.
Making changes and results
- I first noticed that my putter face consistenly open at the point of impact, so next, I focused on that.
- I then made small adjustments during each stroke, trying to keep it square.
- After a while, I started to see some improvement. My putts were definitely more consistent.
It’s not a magic bullet, of course. You still have to put in the work. But SAM PuttLab definitely helped me identify some weaknesses in my putting stroke that I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise. I’m still learning and experimenting with it, but so far, I’m pretty happy with the results. I’ve spent the better part of the last few weeks really dialing in my stroke, and I can already see a difference on the course.
