Alright, let’s talk about this RJ Austin fella and the MLB draft, ya know, the baseball thing. I ain’t no expert, but I heard some things and I can tell ya what I know.
So, this RJ kid, they say he’s good at hittin’ and catchin’, plays all over the place. Second base, first base, even out in the outfield, like a jack-of-all-trades, I guess. He’s a righty, throws righty, and they say he’s about, hmm, maybe 5 foot 11 and kinda chunky, like 193 pounds? Born in Atlanta, that’s what they said on the TV.
They had this draft thing, you know, where the teams pick the young fellas. This year, some team called the Cleveland Guardians, they got the first pick. First time ever for them! And they picked some other kid, not RJ. This other kid plays second base too, fancy that. The draft was in July, in some place called Fort Worth, wherever that is.
- They say RJ, he went to some school called Vanderbilt. He and another boy, Jones, both went there. Smart boys, I reckon.
- Last year, RJ played second base at that Vanderbilt place. But this summer, he was movin’ around, playin’ in the outfield too. Sounds like he’s tryin’ to show everyone he can do it all.
- Now, see, they say RJ was a big deal when he was in high school. Lots of folks wanted him, I heard. He coulda gone straight to the pros then, but I guess he wanted that college learnin’. Good for him, I say.
This MLB draft, it’s a whole thing. You got these young boys, just out of high school or maybe they went to college for a bit. If they went to a four-year college, they gotta wait till they’re juniors or till they turn 21. Or if they went to one of them junior colleges, then they just gotta do one year. Makes sense, I guess. Gotta get some learnin’ in before you go playin’ ball for money.
So, RJ, he was playin’ in that Cape Cod league this summer. That’s where the good college boys go to play, I hear. Show off their skills and get the scouts lookin’ at ’em. He played for a team called Y-D, whatever that means. And he was doin’ good, playin’ all over, hittin’ the ball, catchin’ the ball. Sounds like he’s ready for the big leagues, if you ask me.
But I don’t know, this draft thing is kinda complicated. You got all these teams pickin’ players, and they got their strategies and all that. Some teams need pitchers, some need hitters, some need guys who can play different positions. It’s a whole puzzle, tryin’ to figure out who to pick. And sometimes, the best players don’t get picked first, and the ones that get picked first don’t turn out so good. It’s a gamble, I tell ya, a real gamble.
But RJ, he seems like a good kid. Hard workin’, talented, and he’s got that versatility, that’s what they call it, right? Being able to play different positions. That’s valuable, I reckon. So, we’ll see what happens. Maybe he’ll get drafted high, maybe he’ll have to work his way up. But either way, I bet he’ll do alright. He’s got that somethin’, you know? That grit, that determination. He’ll make it, I just know it.
And who knows, maybe one day we’ll see him on TV, hittin’ home runs and makin’ the big bucks. Wouldn’t that be somethin’? A good ol’ boy from Atlanta, makin’ it big in the major leagues. That’s the American dream, ain’t it? Work hard, play hard, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll get your chance to shine.
So, good luck to ya, RJ. Go out there and show ’em what you got. You make us proud, you hear? And remember, even if you don’t get picked right away, don’t you give up. Keep swingin’ that bat, keep catchin’ that ball, and keep on chasin’ your dreams. That’s what matters, in the end.
