Hey everyone, so, I was digging into this RBC Heritage golf tournament thing today. You know, the one they always play down in South Carolina? Well, I got sucked into a rabbit hole of past winners and thought I’d share some of what I found.
First off, I started by looking at who won recently. Turns out, this guy Scottie Scheffler won it just after winning the Masters. Now, I’m no golf expert, but apparently, that’s a pretty big deal. They were saying it’s the first time someone’s done that since Tiger Woods in 2006, and the first time someone’s won the Masters and the RBC back-to-back in almost 40 years! That got me curious about who else has won this thing multiple times.
I went through this whole results database, and wow, there are some names that pop up a lot. Apparently, ten guys have won it more than once. Most of them have won it twice, but this one guy, Hale Irwin, he won it three times, going way back to 1971!
Then, I looked at how the tournament itself has changed. Did you know that RBC, some bank I think, started sponsoring this thing in 2012? They signed a five-year deal back then. I guess they liked it because they’re still around.
- Checked recent winners.
- Found out about Scottie Scheffler’s big win after the Masters.
- Looked up players who’ve won multiple times.
- Discovered Hale Irwin’s three wins.
- Learned about RBC sponsoring the tournament since 2012.
The Prize
Also, because I’m nosy, I checked out how much money these guys are playing for. It’s a lot, let me tell you. Apparently, the winner gets over a million bucks, and the total purse is almost six million!
Oh, and one last thing! I read that Fitzpatrick won by hitting a 180-yard shot with a 9-iron on the first playoff hole. I mean, I barely know what that means, but it sounds pretty impressive, right?
Anyway, that’s my little deep dive into the RBC Heritage winners. It’s always fun to learn about the history of these things, even if I’m not a huge golf fanatic. Hope you found it interesting too!
