Okay, so I saw this trend going around to dress up like Nick Saban, the legendary Alabama football coach. I’m a huge college football fan, and I thought, “Why not? Let’s give it a shot!” I’m no stranger to DIY projects, so I was up for the challenge.
Finding the Right Gear
First things first, I needed the clothes. Saban’s got a pretty signature look on the sidelines, so I started with that.
- A Crimson Tide Polo: I dug through my closet, I actually have an old Alabama polo. Perfect! If not , maybe I would found one at a local sports store or online.
- Khaki Pants: I already had a pair of plain khaki pants. Most people do, right?
- White Sneakers: I have some basic white sneakers in good condition, essential for that coach look.
- A Headset: This was the trickiest part. I found an old, broken headset. Good enough! I figured I could just tuck the cord away.
- A White Visor or Hat : He sometimes wears a visor, I find a plain white baseball cap to stand in.
Putting It All Together
With all the pieces acquired, it was time to assemble the costume. It’s pretty straightforward, honestly.
I put on the khaki pants and the Alabama polo. I made sure the polo was tucked in neatly, just like Coach Saban.
Then, I put on the white sneakers, I make sure my pants sit just right over them.
The headset went on next. I positioned the microphone.
Finally, I put on my stand-in white baseball cap, adjusting it.
The Final Touches
To really sell the look, I practiced my best “serious coach” face in the mirror. Think stern, focused, maybe a little bit annoyed. The full look was great!
And that was it! My Nick Saban Halloween costume was complete. I was pretty happy with how it turned out, especially since I managed to pull it together with minimum time. I snapped a few pictures and even sent one to my buddy who’s a die-hard Auburn fan – just to get a rise out of him, you know? It was all in good fun, and it definitely got a few laughs.
