Okay, so, let me tell you about this golfer, Nick Dunlap. I’ve been following him for a bit now, and the kid’s got some serious game. I mean, I first heard about him when he won the U.S. Junior Amateur back in 2021. I remember thinking, “Alright, this guy might be something special.”
Then, he goes and wins the U.S. Amateur in 2023! That’s when I really started paying attention. It’s not every day you see someone win both of those. You know, It is really awesome. But what really blew my mind was what happened earlier this year.
I was watching The American Express, right? And who’s leading the pack? Nick Dunlap. Now, at this point, he’s still an amateur. I’m thinking, “No way, he can’t win this, can he?” But sure enough, he goes and pulls it off.
A Big Win
He became the first amateur to win a PGA Tour event in 33 years! I was jumping up and down on my couch, I couldn’t believe it. I mean, the last guy to do that was Phil Mickelson back in 1991. That’s some serious company to be in.
- Wins the U.S. Junior Amateur in 2021: This is where he first caught my eye.
- Wins the U.S. Amateur in 2023: Okay, now I’m really impressed.
- Wins The American Express in 2024 as an amateur: Mind blown. Seriously, this was huge.
After that win, it was pretty obvious what was coming next. He turned pro. I mean, how could he not? He’s got all this momentum, all this talent. It was the logical next step.
Turning Pro
I started digging around a bit, trying to find out more about him. Turns out, he’s only 20 years old! 20! That’s insane. He’s basically a kid out there competing with the best in the world. I heard he even got a tour of the University of Alabama’s golf facility after his win. Must be pretty cool for him.
It seems he even won the Barracuda Championship. It is said that he become the first player in PGA Tour history to win as an amateur and pro in the same year.
Just Getting Started
And the best part? He’s just getting started. I mean, who knows what he’s going to achieve in the next few years? It’s going to be exciting to watch, that’s for sure. I’ll be following his career closely, and I suggest you do too. This Nick Dunlap guy, he’s the real deal. Keep an eye on him.
Oh, and I heard some people comparing him to Old Tom Morris and Young Tom Morris, some legends from way back. That’s some high praise, but honestly, I think he might just live up to it. We’ll see.
I’m telling you, this kid is something special. Just remember, you heard it here first!
