Okay, so I was messing around online the other day, and I got to thinking about the New York Yankees. What a history, right? I mean, this team’s been around forever, and they’ve had some serious legends on the field. Then it hit me – who were all the captains of the Yankees?
I started digging around, and it turns out there have been 16 official captains in Yankees history. Sixteen! That’s a lot of leadership. Currently, the big man on campus is Aaron Judge. They named him captain back on December 21, 2022. Before Judge, it was Derek Jeter. I got to read this information on some website, but I don’t remember the name. Oh, wait! It was Wikipedia, I guess.
But I went down a total rabbit hole learning about all these captains. The most recent captain prior to Judge was Derek Jeter, who is also the player with the most career hits, 3,465 hits. Can you believe that? Followed by Lou Gehrig with 2,721 hits. It’s crazy to think about all the games they played and the hits they got. It was so cool to check out the names and the years they were captains.
So I spent a good chunk of my day just reading about these guys.
Here’s what I found out:
- There have been a total of 16 captains.
- Aaron Judge is the current captain.
- Derek Jeter had the most career hits with 3,465.
- A total of 61 players, managers, and executives in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
I even found this old press release thing from 2003 about Derek Jeter not being the 11th captain, which was kind of confusing, to be honest. I don’t remember where I read it, though. I think it was a press release or something. But yeah, it got me thinking about how much history this team has.
Anyway, it was a fun little trip down memory lane, or should I say, down the baseball diamond? I just love getting lost in stuff like this. It made me want to watch some old games.
Hope you guys find this as interesting as I did! I just wanted to share it with you guys.
There are still a lot of things I don’t know about, like how many other players have been in the Hall of Fame. Maybe next time, I will research this. I’m sure there must be some interesting stories there. I hope next time I can share more information with you guys!
Anyway, that’s all for me today. Have a good one!
