Okay, so I wanted to get better at stealing bases in MLB The Show 24, especially in Road to the Show (RTTS). I’ve been getting thrown out way too much, and it’s frustrating.

First thing I did was hop into a practice game. I figured I needed to get the timing down without the pressure of a real game situation. I picked a player with decent speed, just to give myself a fighting chance.
I started by just trying to get a good lead-off. I played around with the L2 button (on PlayStation, might be different on Xbox) to see how far I could push it before the pitcher started paying attention. Too big of a lead, and you’re toast.
- Tapped L2 to take an extra step.
- Held L2 to take a bigger lead (more risky!).
Then came the actual stealing part. I tried a few different things:
- Going on the first movement. Pretty straightforward, just hit L2 the second the pitcher starts his delivery.
- Delaying my steal, trying to read the pitcher’s motion. This felt way harder. I got picked off a bunch trying this.
Practice, Practice, Practice
Honestly, the first few attempts were a disaster. I got thrown out, like, every single time. But I kept at it. I started to notice little things, like the pitcher’s leg kick, or how long he held the ball before throwing to first.
I also experimented with different player archetypes. Some players in RTTS just aren’t built for stealing, even if you upgrade their speed. Having a good “Stealing” attribute definitely seemed to help.
After a while, I started to get the hang of it. I was still getting thrown out sometimes, but I was also swiping a few bags. It felt good! Still needs a lot more practice, but I’m definitely getting better. It isn’t so hard! Good luck to you all!
