Alright, let’s talk about this Middle Tennessee State football team, ya know, the Blue Raiders. Folks keep askin’ me about who’s playin’ where, so I figured I’d try to make some sense of it for ya. Don’t expect no fancy talk, I’m just gonna tell it like it is.
First off, the offense. Now, that’s the fellas tryin’ to get the ball down the field and score. It ain’t always pretty, but that’s the goal.
- At quarterback, sounds like they got a few fellas. I heard tell of this Myles Butler fella, says he’s a “RS JR/TR”. Don’t rightly know what all them letters mean, but I reckon he’s been around a while. He’s probably the main man, the one calling the shots.
- Then ya got yer wide receivers, the guys catchin’ the ball. They got a bunch of ‘em. Javonte Sherman, he’s another one of them “RS JR” fellas. Cam’ron Lacy, he’s a young’un, a “RS FR”. They gotta be quick and catch good, that’s their job.
- Now, the fellas up front, they’re the offensive line. Gotta be big and strong, protect the quarterback. I saw somethin’ about a Gonzalez fella, number 89, playin’ left tackle. Tackle, that means he’s on the side, stoppin’ them big ol’ defensive fellas. I also heard about a fella named Ellis Adams, plays “OG”, whatever that is, must be important if he’s on that line.
- And don’t forget the tight end, Slade Alexander. He’s gotta block and catch, do a bit of everything. Handy fella to have around.
Okay, now for the defense. Their job is to stop the other team from scorin’. Tough job, gotta be mean and quick.
- They got linebackers, fellas like Amarrien Bailey. He’s a “LB”, stands for linebacker I guess. They gotta be tough, tackle them ball carriers. There’s also a Beasley fella, no first name given, just Beasley. Must be a tough one.
Now, this here “depth chart” everyone’s talkin’ about, it’s just a list of who’s playin’ what position. Who’s startin’, who’s backin’ ’em up. It changes all the time, ya know, folks get hurt, some play better than others. It’s like musical chairs, but with more hitting.
I heard tell this team, the Blue Raiders, they play in somethin’ called “College Football”. Big deal, lots of teams, lots of games. You can find all sorts of stuff about ’em online. Stats, they call ’em. How many points they scored, how many yards they ran, all that kinda stuff. ESPN, that’s a channel on that there TV, they got all the info, if you’re into that sort of thing.
They got a whole roster, that’s the list of all the players. Says how tall they are, how much they weigh, even when they were born. Some of them young fellas are barely out of diapers, it seems. You can find all that online too, if you wanna know how big a fella is before you see him play.
And folks are always lookin’ at the “search tools” to find out more about college football. Stathead, they call it. I ain’t got no use for that fancy stuff, but I reckon some folks like it.
So, that’s the lowdown on the Middle Tennessee State football team, as best as I can tell ya. They got their offense, their defense, a bunch of fellas tryin’ to win some games. Don’t get too caught up in all the fancy names and numbers. Just watch the game, see who’s runnin’ fast and hittin’ hard, that’s the real story.
Remember, this ain’t no exact science. Things change, players get better or worse. But this should give ya a general idea of who’s who on that there football team. Now, go enjoy the game, and don’t forget to holler for the Blue Raiders!
Go Blue Raiders! That’s what the young’uns say, right? Gotta support the local team, even if I don’t always understand what’s goin’ on out there on that field.
