Well now, let me tell ya about this Mark Andrews fella. He’s a big shot for them Baltimore Ravens, playin’ tight end, and he sure had a rough time out there on the field. It was during one of them Thursday night games against them Cincinnati Bengals. I reckon it was in November of 2023, and things went downhill quick for him.
You see, Mark Andrews got himself hurt real bad, and it ain’t lookin’ too good. The way it happened, well, that Bengals linebacker, Logan Wilson, got a hold of him with one of them tackles they call a “hip-drop.” I ain’t too sure what they mean by that fancy name, but sounds like it was a tackle that took Mark by surprise. Wilson dropped all his weight right onto the back of Andrews’ leg, and that’s when everything went south.
So, after that hit, ol’ Mark Andrews went down like a sack of potatoes, and you could tell something wasn’t right. It didn’t take long for the Ravens to figure out they had a serious problem. They rushed him to get an MRI, and sure enough, the news was worse than what folks had hoped for.
The MRI showed that poor Mark Andrews had a cracked fibula. Now, I ain’t a doctor, but that’s a bone down there in your leg that ain’t supposed to be crackin’ like that. And as if that ain’t enough, he also hurt them ligaments in his ankle too. That right there means he’s gonna be out for a while, probably the whole season, and it’s gonna take a heap of time for him to get back to where he was.
They’ve been talkin’ about it all over the NFL, ‘cause this type of tackle — that hip-drop tackle — it’s been causin’ more and more injuries lately. The folks who run the league are even lookin’ into whether or not they should ban it altogether. According to some studies, them tackles have a 25% higher chance of hurtin’ players, and it’s plain to see why. If you don’t get that weight off quick, it can wreck a man’s leg in no time.
Now, Mark Andrews, he’s been a real key player for the Ravens. He’s been makin’ big plays all season, catchin’ them passes and helpin’ his team score. But with this injury, it’s lookin’ like the Ravens are gonna be in a real tight spot. They’ll need someone to step up and fill them shoes, and that’s never easy, especially not this time of year when games start gettin’ tougher.
As of now, the word is that this injury is gonna keep him off the field for a long stretch. That cracked fibula is no small thing, and with them ligaments hurt too, it might be a season-ending deal. That’s a mighty blow to both Mark and the Ravens, who was hopin’ to make a strong run for the playoffs. But injuries like this? Well, they’re part of the game, I suppose. Ain’t nobody immune to it, not even the best of ‘em.
And you know, this whole situation’s got folks talkin’ about that tackle style more and more. Like I said, the NFL’s been lookin’ into it, and with more players gettin’ hurt like this, they might just have to change the way they do things. For now, we just gotta wait and see what happens next, and keep our fingers crossed that ol’ Mark Andrews can heal up quick and get back on that field someday.
