You know what, I saw that Houston Rockets game on the TV the other day. And you won’t believe what I saw! This big, furry thing, a bear, I reckon. They call him Clutch the Bear. He’s the Houston Rockets mascot, you see.
That Bear, Clutch
That bear, he’s somethin’ else. He was dancin’ around, makin’ everyone laugh. My grandkids, they love him. They kept pointin’ at the TV, yellin’, “Bear! Bear!” It was a real hoot, I tell ya. This Clutch the Bear, he’s been around a while, since 1995, they say. That’s a long time, even for an old gal like me. They made him to be all fun and friendly, like our Houston, you know. And he sure is friendly. He was wavin’ at everyone, makin’ those little kids just giggle and holler.
They used to have another one, before Clutch, I think they call him Turbo or something like that. He can do all kinds of amazing tricks, like jumpin’ and spinnin’ in the air, but I think that bear is retired now. That’s what happens when you get old, you retire.
He’s Everywhere!
This Clutch the Bear, he ain’t just at the Houston Rockets games. I hear he goes to schools, too. Imagine that! A big, furry bear walkin’ into your school. I bet those kids just love it. My grandkids would go crazy. They’d be talkin’ about it for weeks. He must make hundreds of visits, that bear. He’s a busy fella, I reckon.
Now, there’s this man, Robert, I think. He used to be inside that bear suit. Can you believe it? For more than twenty years, he was Clutch the Bear. That’s a long time to be wearin’ a bear suit. Must get hot in there. He’s not doin’ it anymore, but he was the best Houston Rockets mascot, they say.
What’s Clutch City?
They call Houston “Clutch City” sometimes. I heard that on the TV, too. I reckon it’s ’cause of that bear, Clutch the Bear. He’s a big deal, you know. He’s like the king of the Houston Rockets, except he’s a bear, not a king. But you know what I mean. He’s the boss, the big cheese, the head honcho. And he always makes sure everyone is having fun in Clutch City.

That Clutch the Bear, he’s a good bear. He makes people happy. And that’s what’s important, ain’t it? Makin’ people happy. He’s a good Houston Rockets mascot. And that man, Robert, who used to be the bear, well, he must be somethin’ special, too. To be that bear for so long. He must have made a lot of people happy. That’s a good thing. It’s good to make people happy. It made me happy to watch Clutch the Bear, that’s for sure. It reminded me of when my grandkids were little, all full of energy and fun.
