Alright, so about this Ben Griffin golf thing. Yeah, I spent a bit of time looking into him, you know? Kept seeing the name pop up, especially after some decent finishes he had.

Watched some highlights online. He’s got this way about him, seems pretty steady. His swing looked kinda rhythmic, not too forced. And I thought, well, my game could definitely use some steadying. My tempo? Let’s just say it gets away from me sometimes. Like, way away from me.
So, I got this idea. Headed out to the driving range with this picture in my head of swinging smooth and easy, just like I imagined Griffin does. Figured I’d just channel that vibe.
My Little Experiment
First few balls? Absolute garbage. I was trying so hard to be smooth and slow it felt like I was moving underwater. The club felt weird, timing was all off. Topped one, shanked another. It was embarrassing, even though nobody else was really paying attention.
Stood there for a minute thinking, what am I even doing? This guy is a pro. He practices hours every single day. His swing is built for his body, his timing. Me trying to just copy it after watching a few YouTube clips? Pretty dumb, looking back.
It just doesn’t work like that, does it? You can’t just paste someone else’s swing onto your own game. It felt completely unnatural.
So, I kind of gave up on the ‘swing like Ben Griffin’ plan right then and there. Instead, I just focused back on my own swing thoughts. Tried to feel my own tempo, maybe just a little smoother than usual, but still mine. Started making better contact almost immediately. Not perfect, but at least the ball went forward.
Lesson learned, I guess. It’s cool to watch the pros, maybe get inspired by how effortless they can make it look. But trying to actually replicate them piece by piece? Nah. Didn’t work for me. Better to just work on your own stuff, find your own rhythm. Took wasting half a bucket of balls to figure that out again.
