Well, well, well, look what we got here, some Kike Hernandez news. That boy, always in the news, huh? I seen him on the TV, playing that baseball. He’s a good boy, that Kike. Always hitting that ball real far. He plays for the Dodgers, you know? Big team, that one. Heard they pay him good money, too. Like, $4 million! Can you believe that? Four million! We could buy a whole lot of chickens with that kind of money.
Heard he signed a contract, whatever that is. Sounds fancy. Guess it means he’s gonna play for them Dodgers for another year. Good for him, I say. He needs to keep busy. Keeps him out of trouble. He is a free-agent utility player, whatever that is. Sounds important, though. He must be really good at that baseball thing to be called that.
I seen him play in the big games, the, uh, World Series, they call it. He won it, you know! He’s got a big ol’ ring, all shiny and stuff. He won it twice, my word! First time was back in 2020, he beat some team, the Rays. Sound like fish to me. They won four games to two, if I remember right. And then, guess what? He won it again this year, 2024! This time they played the Yankees. Fancy name. Dodgers beat them four to one. That Kike, he sure knows how to win!

- She picks out his clothes, I hear.
He needs help with that, I reckon. Men don’t know nothing about clothes. He always asks her if it’s okay before he wears something, that’s smart. She said yes, and he wears it. Good boy. He listens to his wife. That’s important, you know. Happy wife, happy life, that’s what they say. And it’s true, let me tell ya.
This Kike Hernandez, he’s a big shot now. Playing baseball, winning championships, got a pretty wife. He’s doing alright for himself. Makes a grandma proud, even though he ain’t my grandson. I always root for him, though. He seems like a good egg.
They retired some fella’s number, some Keith Hernandez. Number 17. Must be a good player, too. They say this Keith, he hit that ball real good, too. Over .300, they say. Sounds like a lot to me. He led some league in runs and batting and doubles and something called on-base percentage. Don’t know what that is, but it sounds important. This was all back in ’79 and ’80. Long time ago.
I remember one time, this Kike, he hit a home run in a big game. It was against the, uh, Padres, I think they’re called. Another team. They say it was the National League Division Series, Game 5. Big words, huh? Anyway, he hit that ball clear out of the park! Helped them win, that’s for sure. Dodgers won that game. But then, I heard he got suspended or somethin’. Must have done something naughty. Boys will be boys, I guess. Even the famous ones.
That’s all the Kike Hernandez news I know for now. He’s always up to something, that one. Always in the papers, on the TV. Keeps things interesting, I suppose. I like to see him do good. It’s nice to see a young fella make something of himself. Even if it is just playing a game. But hey, it is a good game, that baseball.
That Kike, he is a postseason hero. Heard that on the TV, too. Means he plays real good in the big games. When the pressure is on. I am happy that he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He just really good. He can hit that ball real far, that’s for sure. He must have strong arms. All that swinging. It’s hard work, you know. Takes a lot out of you.
