Alright, so today I wanted to mess around with the “Kimbrel Stance.” I’d seen it a bunch of times and thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I’m no baseball pro, but hey, it looked fun.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to actually see what this stance was all about. I watched some videos, mostly just to get a visual. I mean, how hard could it be to dangle your arm, right?
I grabbed a baseball bat, nothing fancy, just the one I had lying around. I went out to my backyard, figured it’d be the best place to flail around without breaking anything.
The Awkwardness Begins
Initially, it felt…weird. Really weird. I tried to mimic the way I’d seen it done:
- Feet shoulder-width apart – Check.
- Slight bend in the knees – Got it.
- Bat held high – Okay, so far, so good.
- Letting the throwing arm dangle – This is where it got awkward.
My arm just felt…out of place. Like a limp noodle hanging there. I tried different angles, slightly bent, straight down, a little to the side. Nothing felt natural, at least not at first.
Trying to Swing
Okay, so the stance felt strange, but maybe it would all click into place when I actually tried to swing. Spoiler alert: it didn’t. At least not right away.
My first few swings were…uncoordinated, to say the least. My arm felt like it was getting in the way, and my balance was totally off. I nearly tripped over my own feet a couple of times. Definitely not a home run, more like a “strike three, you’re out” situation.
Adjusting and (Slightly) Improving
I kept at it, though. I figured, maybe it’s just a matter of practice. I tried to focus on:
- Keeping my eye on the (imaginary) ball.
- Rotating my hips.
- Trying to get my dangling arm out of the way at the right time.
Slowly, very slowly, it started to feel a little less awkward. I wouldn’t say I was mastering the Kimbrel Stance, but I was definitely getting better at not falling over. I was making more solid contact, even if the “ball” was just a point in the air that I was focusing on.

Final Thoughts
So, after an hour or so of looking like a confused flamingo, did I conquer the Kimbrel Stance? Nope. Not even close. But, I did have some fun, got a little exercise, and learned that some things are definitely better left to the pros.
Would I recommend it? If you’re looking for a laugh and don’t mind feeling a bit silly, sure, give it a go. Just don’t expect to be hitting any dingers anytime soon.
Maybe I’ll try this again, one day. But for now, I’m going to stick to a regular batting stance. My pride (and my ankles) will thank me.
