Alright, so you wanna hear about my “Khabib Bath” experiment, huh? Buckle up, it’s gonna be a weird ride.

The Setup
Okay, so first off, I saw this thing online, right? About how Khabib Nurmagomedov, the UFC fighter, used to take these cold baths to recover after training. Something about reducing inflammation, boosting the immune system, making you a freakin’ warrior or something. I was feeling kinda sluggish, so I thought, “Why not?”
Finding the Cold
The biggest challenge was getting the water cold enough. My tap water wasn’t cutting it. So, I started filling up my bathtub with ice. I went to the store, bought like, five bags. It was a pain lugging them up to my apartment, let me tell ya. I mixed the ice with the coldest water I could get from the tap. I used a thermometer I found in the kitchen drawer (probably for cooking, oops) and aimed for around 50-60°F (10-15°C). It was colder than I thought it would be, even with the ice melting a bit.
The Plunge
Alright, deep breath. I stripped down to my boxers and just went for it. I lowered myself into the tub, and holy crap, it was shocking. Like every nerve in my body screamed at once. It was a serious “brain freeze” type of feeling all over. My first instinct was to jump right back out, but I remembered reading you gotta stay in there for at least a few minutes to get any benefit.
Surviving the Freeze
I tried to focus on my breathing. Slow, deep breaths. It helped a little. My teeth were chattering like crazy. I could feel my skin tightening up, turning all red and blotchy. I kept thinking, “Khabib did this, you can do this.” I was in there for maybe three minutes. Felt like an eternity.

The Aftermath
When I finally got out, I was shaking uncontrollably. I grabbed a towel and dried off as fast as I could. My skin was burning and tingling at the same time. I threw on some warm clothes and made myself a cup of hot tea. It took me a good half hour to stop shivering.
The Verdict
So, did I feel like a superhuman warrior? Not really. Did it boost my immune system? Who knows? But I will say, after I warmed up, I did feel strangely…alert. Like, super awake and focused. Maybe it was just the adrenaline rush from the cold. Would I do it again? Maybe. But definitely not every day. That’s some hardcore stuff. I might try a slightly warmer temperature next time. Or just stick to a cold shower. Less ice to buy.
Lessons Learned
- Start slow: Don’t jump straight into an ice bath. Maybe start with cold showers and gradually lower the temperature.
- Have a plan: Make sure you have warm clothes and a hot drink ready for when you get out.
- Don’t overdo it: A few minutes is enough. You don’t need to stay in there until you turn blue.
- Listen to your body: If you start feeling dizzy or lightheaded, get out immediately.
Overall, it was an interesting experience. I wouldn’t say it’s for everyone, but if you’re looking for a way to challenge yourself and maybe get a little boost, give it a try. Just be prepared for the initial shock!
