Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “Jungle Jam” thing, and I gotta say, hitting those milestones felt pretty good. Let me walk you through what I did.

First Steps – Getting Started
First, I downloaded the whole project. I kinda just jumped in without really knowing what I was doing. I opened up the Unity editor, and man, it was a bit overwhelming at first. There were all these panels and buttons, and I was like, “Where do I even start?”
But I poked around, figured out how to open the main scene. Then, I tried running the game. It was cool to see it all working, even though I hadn’t done anything yet!
Making Some Small Tweaks
My first milestone? I wanted to change something simple, just to get my feet wet. So I decided to mess with the player’s jump height. I found the script that controls the player (I think it was called “PlayerMovement” or something like that), and looked for a variable that seemed related to jumping. After a bit of trial and error, and a few hilarious super-jumps, I finally got it to a height I liked. Boom! First milestone down.
- Find the Right Script: Spent some time looking through the project files to find where the player movement was handled.
- Experiment with Values: Changed the jump height value a bunch of times until it felt right.
- Celebrate the Small Wins: Actually felt really good to make even a tiny change.
Diving Deeper – Level Design
Next up, I wanted to do something a bit more challenging. I decided to try my hand at level design. I found the scene with the level, and started moving platforms around. It was like playing with virtual LEGOs.
I added some new platforms, changed the positions of others, and even tried adding a few extra obstacles. It took a while to get it all working together, and I had to playtest it a bunch of times to make sure it was actually fun (and not impossible!).
- Explore the Scene: Got familiar with the layout of the existing level.
- Move Stuff Around: Dragged and dropped platforms to create new pathways.
- Playtest, Playtest, Playtest: Ran through the level many times to make sure it was challenging but doable.
The Final Touch – Adding Some Style
For my final milestone, I decided to add some flair. I looked for the materials folder, and played with some textures on the platform. After trying for several times, I finally made it, and made the level visually appealing.
- Find the materials folder: Had to find the materials.
- Try and try again: It took a bit of time, trying to find the ideal visual.
It’s not exactly a masterpiece, but it’s mine. And that’s what makes hitting these milestones so satisfying. It’s about the process of learning, experimenting, and seeing your own creations come to life. Even if it’s just a slightly modified jungle level, it’s a step forward. And that feels great!
