Okay, so I’ve been trying to get better at tennis, and I figured watching pro players is a good way to pick up some tips. I decided to focus on Jordan Thompson today.

First, I pulled up some of his recent matches online. I just searched for “Jordan Thompson matches” and found a few to watch.
Watching the Matches
- Footwork: The very first thing I did notice was that he’s always moving, you know, like little steps, split-stepping all the time. It got my attention, and I tried that right away.
- Serve: I spent some time just watching his serve. I paused and rewound a bunch of times to see the motion, how he tosses the ball, and how he swings.
- Groundstrokes: I am always struglling with that, so I really focused on how he hits his forehand and backhand, especially his stance and how he follows through.
Practicing What I Saw
Then I went out to the court. I don’t have anyone to play with right now, so I just practiced by myself.
- Serving Practice: I spent about 30 minutes just working on my serve. I tried to copy Thompson’s motion as best as I could, It felt awkward at first.
- Groundstroke Practice: Then I spent time with groundstroke. I tried to stay low and follow through, again, like I saw Thompson doing, and to get more used to the hitting feeling.
- Footwork Drills: After that, I did some simple footwork drills, just moving around the court, trying to stay light on my feet.
It was a good practice session. I definitely feel like I learned something by watching Thompson and trying to copy what he does.I think it’s useful to watch the pros and then immediately try to put it into practice. That’s how you get better, right?
