Alright, guys, gather ’round, gather ’round. Let me tell you about my little adventure diving into this whole “Joe Montana on Rudy” thing. Now, I’m a huge football fan, Notre Dame is my team, and like any good fan, I thought I knew everything about the famous “Rudy” movie.
So, I started digging. And let me tell you, the internet is a wild place. First, I stumbled upon some stuff about Joe Montana being Rudy Ruettiger’s teammate at Notre Dame. Yeah, I know, mind blown, right? Montana, a legend, and Rudy, the ultimate underdog, on the same team! I dug a little deeper, and I found that Montana had some thoughts on the movie.
Apparently, he wasn’t too thrilled with how things were portrayed. I found some quotes from a show, I think it’s called the “Dan Patrick Show“, where Montana basically said the movie took some, let’s say, creative liberties. He mentioned something about the crowd not really chanting and nobody throwing in their jerseys. Ouch, right in the feels.
- I kept digging, because that’s what we do, right?
- Found some stuff on that “TMZ” site, of all places.
- They had this audio clip where Montana basically debunked a bunch of the movie’s “facts“.
Now, I love the “Rudy” movie, it’s inspiring as hell. But hearing Montana’s perspective, it kinda makes you think. I mean, the real Rudy did get that sack in the Georgia Tech game, which is awesome. But it seems like the movie might have, you know, embellished things a bit. Ruettiger himself said the movie is like “92% true” I found it on the internet. Who knows.
There are even some mistakes about the bus trip from Chicago to South Bend that are depicted as an overnight trip, and I found on the internet that it is actually not. Man, things are really messed up.
Anyway, it was a fun little deep dive. It just goes to show, there are always two sides to every story, even a feel-good movie like “Rudy“. And hey, it got me thinking about how memory and movies can sometimes blur the lines between fact and fiction. But hey, it’s still a great movie, right?
