Alright, decided to spend some real time with the Ghost Spider S putter today. Been sitting in the garage for a bit, figured it was time to see what’s what.

Grabbed it, felt the weight. It’s got some heft, you know? Not crazy heavy, but solid. Headed over to the practice green. Nobody else there, perfect. Dumped out my usual bag of practice balls.
First thing I noticed, again, was that white head. Stands out like crazy against the green. Supposed to help with alignment, I guess. We’ll see.
Getting Started
Started with some short ones, like tap-in range, maybe 3-4 footers. Just wanted to get the feel of the ball coming off the face. The insert feels pretty soft, actually. Not mushy, but definitely not clicky like some old putters I’ve used. The ball seemed to roll pretty quick off the face.
- Lined up the first few.
- Focused on a smooth stroke back and through.
- Tried to keep my head still. Easier said than done sometimes.
The short ones were dropping okay. The alignment aid, that top line, does make it pretty simple to point it where you want to go. Felt pretty stable too, didn’t feel like twisting much on the short putts.
Moving Back
Stepped back to the 10-15 foot range. This is where things get interesting, right? Speed control is everything. Had to concentrate more here. Took a few practice strokes, trying to gauge the distance.
Here’s what I felt: The weight felt helpful on the longer strokes. Like it helped keep the putter path smoother. Didn’t feel like I had to force it. Missed a few left, missed a few right. Standard stuff when you’re trying something new. But the misses weren’t wild. Distance control felt okay, maybe a little hot sometimes. Probably just me getting used to how the ball comes off that face.
Spent a good 30 minutes just rolling putts from this range. Different breaks, uphill, downhill. The white color… honestly, I’m still deciding if I love it or find it a bit distracting on longer putts where you’re looking more at the line than the putter head itself. But for setup, it definitely makes you feel locked in.
Lag Putting
Finished up with some long ones, 30-40 footers. Lag putts. Not trying to make them, just get them close. That stability and weight felt good here. Didn’t feel like the head was wobbling all over during the longer stroke. Got most of them into the ‘ole gimme circle. A couple ran out more than I wanted, but again, could be me, could be the putter, probably a bit of both.

It’s funny, messing with putters. You always hope the next one is magic. This Ghost Spider S, it’s not magic, but it feels pretty reliable. It does what you ask it to. If you put a bad stroke on it, the ball’s not going in. Simple as that. But it feels like it helps you make a decent stroke more often.
Packed up the balls. Grip feels fine, standard stuff. It’s definitely a putter you notice. Solid practice session. Still got lots of work to do on my stroke, no putter fixes everything. But yeah, I’ll keep this one in the rotation for now. See how it goes on the actual course next time.
