So, I was browsing the internet the other day, as one does, and a question popped into my head: “Is Steph Curry black?” I mean, we all know he’s a basketball legend, but I realized I didn’t know much about his background.
First, I started with a quick search to learn a bit about Stephen. I found out he’s a four-time NBA Champion and has won the NBA Most Valuable Player award twice. That’s super impressive! I also discovered his dad, Dell Curry, was a professional basketball player too. It seems basketball talent runs in the family.
Then, I searched for more articles about Stephen Curry and his father to learn more about their background. I read about how Charles Barkley and Curry had talked about the racism they faced. It’s a big deal, especially when you see that over 73% of NBA players were black in 2021.
I noticed a few articles mentioning that Stephen Curry is a practicing Christian and was raised in a religious household. So many people talk about someone’s race when they get famous.
After spending a couple of hours reading various articles and forum discussions, I learned more about him. I know he is a great basketball player.
It’s crazy how much you can learn just by following a simple question online. I had no idea about the discussions surrounding athletes and their ethnicity. And it also got me thinking about how complex discussions of race can be. It seems like there are a lot of different opinions and experiences out there. I might dive into this topic some more later, but for now, it’s definitely given me something to think about!
