Okay, so I saw these cute “ice cube hats” all over the internet and thought, “I gotta try that!” It looked pretty simple, and I’m always up for a little DIY project. Here’s how it went down:

Gathering Supplies
First things first, I needed to grab my materials. I already had a bunch of those silicone ice cube trays lying around (who doesn’t, right?). Then I rummaged through my craft bin and found some:
- Elastic string
- A needle (a bigger one, to make life easier)
- Scissors
- Some colorful beads (totally optional, but I wanted to add some bling)
Making the “Hat”
I took one of the ice cube trays – I picked a smaller one, thinking it would be a good size for a hat. I wanted it to be the perfect fit, not too big and not too small.
Next, I measured out a length of the elastic string. I just kinda eyeballed it, making sure it was long enough to go around whatever I wanted to put the hat on (I was thinking maybe a small figurine or even my cat… if she’d let me!).
I carefully threaded the needle with the elastic string. It was the time to add the colorful beads. And I carefully poked the needle through one corner of the ice cube tray, near the bottom * took a little bit of pressure to poke the needle through the tray.
I carefully pulled the string through, leaving a little tail, then I tied a knot to secure it.I repeated the action at interval until I had a full circle.
The Finishing Touches
Once I got all the way around, I tied the two ends of the elastic string together with a good, strong knot.I double-knotted it, to make sure it wouldn’t come undone. I tested it to make sure it was secure.
If you’re using beads, this is where you’d slide them onto the elastic string, spacing them out however you like.I added a few colorful beads to make it pop.
And that’s it! Super easy, right? I popped the little ice cube hat onto a small dinosaur figurine, and it looked adorable! I’m already planning on making a bunch more in different colors. Maybe I’ll even try using different shaped ice cube trays next time. Who knows, maybe I’ll start a whole ice cube hat trend!
