Okay, so today I wanted to share my experience with the “Moves around the world” NYT crossword puzzle.
I started by looking at the puzzle on the New York Times website, it says “appeared on the New York times mini crossword puzzle of AUG 18 2023”. The first thing I did was to scan through all the clues quickly. You know, just to get a feel for the puzzle. I noticed some fill-in-the-blank clues, and those seemed like the easiest ones to start with. I mean, they’re usually common knowledge, right?
- So, I filled in those blanks first.
- Then, I went back and started working on the other clues, one by one. Some were pretty straightforward, but others were a bit trickier.
- For the tricky ones, I tried to think of different words that could fit, and I also looked at the letters I already had filled in to see if they gave me any hints.
The clue “Moves around the world” was particularly interesting. I thought about it for a while, and then it hit me – the answer must be related to something that goes around the Earth. And then, bam! The answer is “ORBITS”.
My AHA Moment
Honestly, this was a real “aha!” moment. Once I got “ORBITS”, a few other answers started to fall into place. It’s amazing how one answer can unlock so much of the puzzle. After that, I kept working at it, filling in more and more answers. Some of them I figured out on my own, and for some, I used the website’s tools to tap on the clue and check. I found that their separation of clues into two blocks is really helpful!
Eventually, after some persistence and a bit of brainpower, I managed to solve the whole thing! It was a great feeling to see all those words filled in. It took a bit, but I did it!
This whole experience was a good reminder that sometimes, you just need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. And, of course, that persistence pays off. I’m pretty sure there are like 30 answers or something to this crossword. I’ll keep practicing, and hopefully, I’ll get even better at these puzzles over time.
Oh, by the way, I learned that the NYT crossword was created by some freelance constructors and has been edited by a guy named Will Shortz since 1993. Pretty cool, huh? Apparently, they get harder throughout the week. Glad I started with this one!
