Okay, let’s talk about this whole going bald thing. It’s a journey, right? Not something that happens overnight, at least not for most of us.

My Own Thinning Story
I remember first noticing it, maybe in my late 20s or early 30s. Just a little thinner patch at the back, the crown they call it. Didn’t think much of it. Then the hairline started creeping back, like it was slowly retreating from my forehead. You know the look. You try different styles, maybe grow it a bit longer on top to compensate, hoping nobody notices.
Tried a few things over the years. Different shampoos, maybe looked at some of those miracle cures you see advertised. Nothing really dramatic happened. It’s just genetics doing its thing, I guess. For a while, I was just kinda managing it, keeping it cut neat so it didn’t look too obvious.
Seeing Guys Like Austin
Then you’d see guys in the public eye dealing with it. I remember watching wrestling back in the day, and there was Stone Cold Steve Austin. He wasn’t trying to hide anything. He went from having some hair to just buzzing it all off. And honestly? It looked tough. It became his signature look. He just owned it, made it part of his persona. No messing about with trying to cover it up.
Seeing guys like him just go for the full shave kinda planted a seed. It made you think, maybe fighting it is more hassle than it’s worth. Why stress about something you can’t really control?
Taking the Plunge
So, one day, I was looking in the mirror, messing with what little I had left up front, and I just thought, “Enough.” I was tired of trying to style it, tired of worrying if the thin spot was showing. I just decided, right then and there, it was time.
I went into the bathroom, grabbed the clippers. Didn’t even hesitate too much. Put on the shortest guard first, buzzed it all down. Looked okay, but still patchy. Then I took the guard off. Just went straight down to the scalp.
- Felt really weird at first. My head felt cold!
- Took a bit to get used to seeing myself totally bald.
- But washing my “hair” became way easier – just soap and water!
Living With It
Honestly, it was freeing. No more worrying about bad hair days, no more trying to hide the inevitable. Just a clean slate. You just get up, shower, done. It saves time, saves money on haircuts (mostly do it myself now), and weirdly, I think it actually looks better than hanging onto those last few strands.
It’s not about looking like Steve Austin, obviously, but seeing someone just embrace it like he did definitely made the decision easier for me. You just gotta own it. Shave it off, be done with it, and move on. It’s just hair, right?
