Okay, so I was watching the 2023 Masters, and I got to thinking, “I wonder how many pars were made in total?” It seemed like a fun little project to figure it out, so I rolled up my sleeves and got to work.
First, I hunted down the official results for the tournament. They had the full scorecard for each player, round by round, which was exactly what I needed. I started by copying all that data. It was a lot of numbers, but nothing I couldn’t handle.
Crunching the Numbers
Next, I dumped all that scorecard data into a spreadsheet. I love spreadsheets, they make organizing this kind of thing so much easier. Then came the slightly tedious part: I went through each player’s scorecard, round by round, and counted up their pars.
- Round 1: Counted the pars for each player.
- Round 2: Did the same thing for the second round.
- Round 3 & 4: You guessed it, counted more pars!
After counting all the pars for each round, I had a nice, long column of numbers. Then, it was just a matter of adding them all up. The grand total? That’s the magic number I was after! Boom, done. The final result is right there.
It was a bit of manual work, but it was actually kind of satisfying to see it all come together. Plus, I learned a little more about how to wrangle data in a spreadsheet, which is always a good thing. It took a little while, but it felt good to see the number, like solving a little puzzle. So there you have it, that’s how I figured out the total number of pars at the 2023 Masters!
