Okay, so I was watching a high school baseball game the other day, and it got me thinking – how long do these games actually last? I mean, I know pro games can drag on, but what about the high school level? I decided to do a little digging and time a few games myself to see what’s up.
First, I grabbed my phone and found a couple of local high school game schedules online. Nothing fancy, just your regular school websites. Then, I picked a few games that were happening nearby over the next week. I made sure to choose games with different teams, just to get a good variety.
Next, I headed out to the games. I brought along a stopwatch – you know, the old-fashioned kind, not just the app on my phone. I wanted to be precise! At each game, I started the timer right at the first pitch. Then I just sat back, enjoyed the game, and kept an eye on the clock.
I watched everything closely, noting when each inning ended. High school games usually go for seven innings, unlike the pros who play nine. Sometimes there were a few delays, like when a player got injured or the coaches had a long chat with the umpire. But I kept that timer running the whole time, no matter what.
My Observations
-
Game 1: This one wrapped up pretty quickly. It lasted about 1 hour and 50 minutes. The teams were pretty evenly matched, so there weren’t a lot of long breaks between innings.
-
Game 2: This game dragged on a bit longer. It clocked in at around 2 hours and 15 minutes. There were a couple of pitching changes and a few more hits, which added some extra time.
-
Game 3: This was the longest one. It went for a full 2 hours and 30 minutes. One team was way ahead, so they kept swapping out players, which slowed things down.
So, what did I learn from all this? Well, it seems like most high school baseball games last somewhere between 1 hour and 50 minutes to 2 hours and 30 minutes. Of course, it can vary depending on how the game goes. If there are a lot of runs scored or a bunch of pitching changes, it’ll probably take longer. But in general, you can expect a high school game to be a bit shorter than a pro game.
It was a fun little experiment, and it was cool to see the differences in game length. Plus, I got to enjoy some good old-fashioned baseball. If you’re ever curious about how long a high school game might last, hopefully, this gives you a better idea!
