Okay, let’s talk about this thing I tried recently. My desk was getting absolutely buried. Sticky notes everywhere, half-finished lists in notebooks, important details lost in email chains. It was a real mess trying to keep track of all the little projects I juggle.

I was complaining about it to a friend, and they mentioned something called Accolade XL. Said it helped them get organized. Honestly, I’m usually skeptical about these new fancy tools. They often promise the world and end up being more trouble than they’re worth. But I was getting desperate, things were falling through the cracks.
Getting Started
So, I decided to give it a shot. Found the website, signed up for whatever free version they had. The setup wasn’t too bad, pretty straightforward. Didn’t need a credit card or anything, which was nice.
First impressions? It looked… okay. A bit plain, maybe? Not flashy, which I guess is fine. I just needed something that worked.
Putting it to the Test
The real work started when I tried moving my mess into it. This took way longer than I thought. I went through my main projects first:
- Gathered all the notes for Project A.
- Tried to input the key tasks and deadlines.
- Attached some relevant files I had scattered around.
- Did the same for Project B, then C.
Figuring out how they wanted me to organize things was a bit tricky. They have these categories and tags. Took me a while to settle on a system that made sense for me. I spent a good afternoon just fiddling with settings, trying to get the main dashboard to show me what I actually needed to see, not just a bunch of clutter.
One thing I did like was the visual timeline view. Seeing deadlines laid out like that was actually helpful. My old sticky note system definitely couldn’t do that.
But, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Sometimes it felt slow, especially when I was uploading a bunch of files. And there was this one feature I really wanted – a simple way to just jot down a quick, temporary note without creating a whole formal task – and I couldn’t find an easy way to do it. Maybe it’s there, but it wasn’t obvious.
So, What’s the Verdict?
I’ve been using it for a few weeks now. Is my desk perfectly clean? No. Am I suddenly 100% organized? Not quite.

But, it has helped. Having most things in one place is definitely better than the chaos I had before. I can find stuff quicker. The timeline view keeps me honest about deadlines.
I’m still not totally sold, though. It feels a bit rigid sometimes. And I worry about getting locked into their system. What if they start charging a lot later, or shut down?
For now, I’m sticking with it, cautiously. It’s an improvement, even with the quirks. It took effort to set up, and honestly, part of me misses the simplicity of paper sometimes. But yeah, it’s doing the job, mostly. Better than drowning in sticky notes, I guess.
