Okay, so today’s little project was figuring out a bit more about Nick Kyrgios’ parents. You see him on the court, you hear about him, and sometimes you catch glimpses of his family in the stands. Got me curious, you know? Who are they? What’s their story?
So, the first thing I did, naturally, was just search it up. Went straight for the basics, typed in something like “Nick Kyrgios parents” into the search bar. Pretty simple start.
Right away, the names popped up everywhere. Giorgos Kyrgios, his dad, and Norlaila Kyrgios, his mom. Okay, got the names. Then I noticed pretty quickly the heritage details coming through.

That seemed interesting. A mix of backgrounds there. Saw mentions of his dad being born in Greece and his mom in Malaysia. So, I wanted to dig just a tiny bit more. What do they do? What’s their background beyond just where they’re from?
Finding a Little More Detail
I tried searching specifically for each parent. Put in “Giorgos Kyrgios job” or something similar. Saw some bits suggesting he might be a house painter. Not sure how definite that is, but it came up a few times. Seems like a regular working guy.
Then I looked into his mom, Norlaila. Typed in “Norlaila Kyrgios background”. This is where it got quite interesting. Lots of mentions about her being Malaysian royalty! Apparently, she’s a princess from the Selangor royal family but doesn’t use her title, Tengku. That was unexpected. Also saw mentions that she moved to Australia in her twenties and worked as a computer engineer. Quite a combination, royalty and tech.
So, putting it together, it seems like Nick comes from a pretty grounded background despite the royal connection on his mother’s side. You often read about how supportive they are, travelling with him, being there at matches. You definitely see that intensity sometimes, especially from his dad, during the big points.
The information wasn’t exactly hidden, but you had to piece it together a bit from different articles and snippets. It wasn’t like there was one single, massive biography page for them – which makes sense, they’re the parents, not the main star.
So, that was my process today. Just some basic searching, following trails from the initial results, and trying specific terms for each parent. Learned that his dad, Giorgos, is Greek, maybe a painter, and his mom, Norlaila, has Malaysian royal heritage but worked as an engineer. Mostly, they just come across as parents really invested in their son’s journey. A good reminder that behind many public figures, there’s just family. Done for today.
