Alright, so I decided to finally check out that spot folks talk about in Gray Zone – the place they call ‘Mounds of Madness’. Heard some weird stories, figured I’d see for myself what the fuss was all about. You know how it is, gotta poke your nose into these things.

Gearing Up and Heading Out
First thing, grabbed my usual trusty rifle, nothing too fancy, just reliable. Packed some extra water, bandages – the basics. You never know what you’re walking into out there. Checked the map, marked the general area. Looked like a bit of a hike through some thick jungle, standard stuff for this game, really. Always gets the heart pumping a bit, stepping off from base, not knowing if you’ll make it back in one piece.
The trek itself wasn’t too bad at first. Pretty quiet, actually. Just the usual jungle sounds, birds, insects. Kept my head on a swivel, though. Listened hard. Paused every now and then behind a big tree, just scanning the treeline. Moved slow, didn’t want to run into trouble before I even got close. Saw some movement once, way off, but it vanished. Player? AI? Who knows. Didn’t stick around to find out.
Arriving at the ‘Mounds’
Finally pushed through some thick ferns and… there it was. It wasn’t like, haunted house spooky, but definitely weird. Just these odd-looking earthen mounds, kinda randomly placed. Felt… off. Quiet too, like eerily quiet after the jungle noise. Definitely gave off a strange vibe. Not exactly welcoming, you know?
The Vibe Was Real
- Super quiet when I got there.
- The layout felt confusing, almost unnatural.
- Had this constant feeling of being watched.
What Went Down
Started creeping around, moving from mound to mound for cover. Place is a maze, honestly. Easy to get turned around. Found a couple of small shacks or something built near them. Decided to check one out. Door was already open. Bad sign? Maybe. Went in slow, weapon ready.
Inside was mostly junk, but then I heard it. Footsteps. Not mine. Outside, getting closer. My stomach just dropped. Peaked out a grimy window. Saw a guy, geared up, moving cautiously, just like me. He hadn’t spotted me yet. Had that split second, you know? Take the shot or wait? Decided to wait, see what he does. Maybe he’s just passing through.
Nope. He started heading right for my shack. Okay, plan B. I crouched down behind some rubbish, aimed at the door. He came in, real slow. Boom. Let off a few rounds. He went down. Felt bad, but hey, Gray Zone. Waited a minute, listening. Silence. Checked his gear – decent stuff, actually. Better than I expected for a random shack.
Didn’t stick around much longer after that. The whole place just felt… heavy. Like something bad was always about to happen. Grabbed what I could carry from the guy I dropped and decided to book it. Getting out was just as tense as getting in, maybe more so now that I had some loot I didn’t want to lose.

Getting Out and Thoughts
Made it back to base, thankfully. Heart was still pounding a bit. Was it ‘madness’? I dunno about literal madness, but it was definitely tense, confusing, and yeah, a bit creepy. The quietness, the weird layout… it gets in your head. Found some okay loot, survived an encounter. Guess that’s a win.
So yeah, that was my little trip to the Mounds of Madness. Worth checking out if you want a tense experience, but be ready for anything. It lives up to its name, not because of ghosts, but because it’s just one of those spots in Gray Zone that feels designed to mess with you. Go prepared.
