Okay, so today I wanted to dive into some baseball stats, specifically the Oakland Athletics vs. New York Yankees game. I’ve always been a huge fan of baseball data, so I figured, why not track it myself and see what I could find?

Getting Started
First things first, I needed to find a good source for the game data. I tried the offical MLB and other websites. Gotta see the live box scores, right?
Finding the Data I wanted
Then I really got to dig into. I started to copy and paste the player stats.
I wanted to see some specific stats, so I was looking at these:
- Batter Stats: I’m looking at At Bats (AB), Runs (R), Hits (H), Runs Batted In (RBI), and of course, Home Runs (HR). Gotta see who’s crushing it!
- Pitcher Stats: Innings Pitched (IP) is key, along with Hits Allowed (H), Runs Allowed (R), Earned Runs (ER), Walks (BB), and Strikeouts (SO). This tells me how well the pitchers are controlling the game.
Putting It All Together
* I record all stats I need, and organize into my own table. It’s a bit time-consuming, but it gives me a solid picture of how each player performed during the game.
