Okay, so, I’ve always been a huge golf fan, and this year I decided to really dive into the Scottish Senior Open 2024. I’ve been following the PGA TOUR Champions for a while, and seeing the Senior Open at Carnoustie Golf Links got me super excited. I mean, it’s Carnoustie! One of the most iconic courses out there. The tournament was set for July 25th to 28th, so I marked it on my calendar and started planning.
First, I checked out the eligibility criteria, just for fun. I’m nowhere near a scratch golfer, but it’s cool to know what it takes to get in. Male pros with tour affiliations or PGA memberships, or amateurs with a handicap index of 0.4 or lower – that’s some serious skill. I’m just a regular guy who loves the game, so I knew I’d be watching, not playing.
I did some digging and found out that The Renaissance Golf Club, which is a super exclusive place about 23 miles from Edinburgh, was somehow involved. I’ve seen pictures, and it looks amazing. Anyway, I focused on the main event at Carnoustie.
Here’s how I tracked the tournament:
- Started following the PGA TOUR Champions leaderboard online.
- Kept an eye on updates about the players heading to Scotland.
- Checked out the Carnoustie Golf Links website to get a feel for the course. I even watched some old videos of past tournaments there. It’s a tough course, but that’s what makes it so great.
The tournament started, and it was a blast to follow. Every day, I’d check the scores, watch highlights, and read up on what happened. There were some incredible shots and some real nail-biting moments. This was the third time that Carnoustie had hosted the Senior Open, so you know the players were really bringing their A-game.
The whole experience was awesome. It felt great to be so connected to the event, even though I was just watching from home. I’ve got a lot of respect for these senior players – they’re still playing at such a high level. By the end of the tournament, I was already looking forward to the next one. I might not be able to play in it, but I sure love watching it!
Overall Thoughts
This year’s Senior Open was fantastic. Following it from start to finish was a great experience. I learned a lot about the course, the players, and the game itself. It’s inspired me to get out there and work on my own game. Maybe one day I’ll get to visit Carnoustie in person. Until then, I’ll keep following the tournaments and enjoying the sport from afar.
