Alright, so, you wanna hear about this tennis match, huh? Felix Auger-Aliassime and that other fella, Maximilian Marterer. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But lemme tell ya, it’s just two fellas hittin’ a ball back and forth. Nothin’ too complicated, even for an old woman like me.
This match, it happened in Munich. Munich, Germany. That’s a long ways away from here, I tell ya. They played on somethin’ called “CENTER COURT.” Sounds important, right? Probably just a fancy name for a patch of flat ground, if you ask me. They said it was on April 16th. Didn’t say what year, but who’s keepin’ track anyway? Time just flies by, like a blink of an eye.
Now, these young fellas, they were smackin’ that ball around like it owed ’em money. Felix, he’s the one everyone was talkin’ about. Auger- somethin’-or-other, his name is. Hard to pronounce, like tryin’ to say “Worcestershire sauce” with a mouthful of biscuits. Marterer, that’s the other guy. He was tryin’ hard, but Felix, he was a tough nut to crack.
The match, it wasn’t no quickie. It went on and on, like one of them stories my grandpappy used to tell. They played three sets, whatever that means. First set, Felix lost. Yeah, he did. Somethin’ like 6-7. Numbers and dots and all that. Confusin’ if you ask me. But he didn’t give up, that Felix fella.
- First Set: Marterer won, somethin’ like 7-6, with a little (5) at the end. Beats me what that means.
- Second Set: Felix fought back, won that one 7-6, but with a (6) this time. More numbers!
- Third Set: Felix took it home, 7-6 again, with a (3). I guess lower numbers are better? Who knows.
So, in the end, Felix won. Took him long enough, though. They said it was a close one. Lots of back and forth, like watchin’ a couple of chickens fightin’ over a bug. They even had some fancy way of showin’ the stats, somethin’ called “Infosys ATP Stats.” Sounded like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me. Just tell me who won and who lost, that’s all I need to know.
They said you could watch this match on somethin’ called “HBO Max.” Another fancy name. And it cost money, too! 5.99 Euros a month, they said. That’s a lot of money for watchin’ people hit a ball, if you ask me. I’d rather spend that money on a good loaf of bread and some butter.
This Felix fella, he’s been playin’ a lot of tennis, seems like. They kept talkin’ about his “latest results” and “h2h statistics.” H2h? Sounds like somethin’ you’d say to a horse. Anyways, they were sayin’ he’s a pretty good player. I guess so, if he’s winnin’ matches and bein’ on that HBO thing.
And this whole thing was part of somethin’ called “ATP Munich.” And they were talkin’ about the Olympics in Paris, too. Paris! That’s even further away than Munich. Seems like these tennis players are always travelin’ all over the place. Must be tirin’. I get tired just walkin’ to the mailbox and back.
So that’s the story of that tennis match, as best as I can tell it. Felix won, after a long fight. Lots of fancy words and numbers, but in the end, it’s just two fellas hittin’ a ball. Nothin’ more, nothin’ less.
