Okay, so I’ve been trying to get better at baserunning in MLB The Show, and let me tell you, it’s a whole different game when you start to really understand the controls and the little tricks you can do. I wanted to share some of my experiences, what I found to be my useful “cheese” moves.
Getting the Basics Down
First things first, I spent a good chunk of time just getting comfortable with the basic controls. You know, leading off, stealing, going back to the base – that stuff. I used to just mash buttons and hope for the best, but that clearly wasn’t working.
I realized pretty quickly that you gotta be patient. It’s not all about speed; it’s about timing and reading the pitcher.
My “Cheesy” Strategies
Alright, here’s where the “cheese” part comes in. I found a few things that, while maybe not super realistic, definitely helped me get some extra bases.
- The Delayed Steal: This is my go-to move. I take a small lead, wait for the pitcher to start his motion, and THEN take off. It seems to catch the CPU off guard a lot. I don’t take huge leads I noticed that I could confuse the AI pitcher.
- The Hit-and-Run Fakeout: I started using the hit-and-run a lot, but sometimes I wouldn’t even swing. If the defense is expecting you to swing, they’ll shift, and you can sometimes sneak a runner to second or even third. This trick has single handedly changed my game and boosted me to scoring more runs than before.
- Aggressive Leads on Passed Balls: I found that I could often take an extra base if I was really aggressive when there was a passed ball or wild pitch. As soon as I see that ball get away, I’m sending my runner. It really improves my ability to get to home.
Practice, Practice, Practice
Honestly, the biggest thing was just practicing these moves over and over again. I went into practice mode, played a bunch of games, and just kept trying different things. I failed a LOT at first. Got picked off, thrown out, made dumb mistakes. But I slowly started to get the hang of it.
I also watched some YouTube videos of other people playing, just to see how they approached baserunning. That helped me pick up a few extra tips and tricks.
Still Learning
I’m definitely not a pro or anything, but I feel like I’ve made some real progress with my baserunning. I’m still learning and trying to get better, but these “cheese” moves have definitely helped me steal some extra bases and score more runs. It’s all about finding those little advantages!
