Okay, so I was messing around in Baldur’s Gate 3 the other day, doing another run, this time as the Dark Urge. Fun stuff, mostly, but I knew about that particular event involving a certain Tiefling bard, Alfira. I kinda like her, didn’t really want her ending up as… well, you know. A mess.

I’d heard whispers, people talking about ways around it. The main idea seemed to be getting her out of the picture before the event triggers, but without actually killing her. Knocking her out, basically making her temporarily paralyzed or incapacitated, seemed like the plan.
Trying it Out
So, first step, I found Alfira. She was in her usual spot in the Druid Grove, near the cliff, strumming her lute. Seemed peaceful. Felt a bit bad about what I was about to do.
Next, I needed to make sure I didn’t accidentally kill her. This meant switching my attacks to non-lethal. This is key. I had to go into my passives menu, down by the hotbar, and find the toggle for Non-Lethal Attacks. Clicked that sucker on. It usually shows up as an icon, maybe like a little head getting bopped gently, I think?
Alright, toggle engaged. I saved my game right there. Always save before trying something potentially weird. You never know if you’ll mess up or if the game will react strangely.
Then, I just walked up to her. Switched to one of my characters, made sure they were using a melee weapon – didn’t want to risk a spell accidentally doing lethal damage. Took a swing.
She went down in one hit, thankfully. Got the “Knocked Out” status. Perfect. No dead Tiefling bard on my conscience, not yet anyway.
The Result
With Alfira snoozing peacefully (well, maybe not peacefully) on the ground, I figured that was job done for now. I left the Grove and headed back to my camp.
Time for the moment of truth. I hit the long rest button.

That night, the Dark Urge event still happened. But guess who showed up instead of Alfira? Some random Dragonborn bard I’d never seen before! Called herself Quil Grootslang or something. Poor thing met a nasty end, but hey, Alfira was safe.
Just to be sure, after the whole grim camp scene and another long rest, I went back to the Druid Grove. And there she was! Alfira, back up on her feet, playing her lute like nothing ever happened. She wasn’t hostile, didn’t mention being attacked. It was like it never happened for her.
So, yeah. If you’re playing Dark Urge and want to save Alfira, knocking her out with non-lethal attacks right before you take the long rest that triggers the event totally works. Just gotta remember to flip that non-lethal switch first. Worked like a charm for me.
