Okay, so today I messed around with this thing called “GTD Allocation.” I’d heard about GTD, Getting Things Done, but “allocation”? That was new to me. Turns out, it’s all about figuring out where your time and energy actually go.

Getting Started (and Feeling a Little Lost)
First, I just brainstormed. Literally everything I do in a day, week, or even a month. Work stuff, chores, hobbies, even mindless scrolling – I wrote it all down. It was a mess, to be honest. Just a giant, sprawling list.
Then,I started thinking about the different ways I could put things in place.
- Work Project
- House Cleaning
- Learning English
- Reading
You get the idea. Anything that occupies a chunk of my time.
The “Aha!” Moment (and Some Serious Thinking)
This is where the “allocation” part really kicked in. I started estimating how much time I thought I spent on each thing. Like, “Okay, I probably spend an hour a day on email.” Then I compared that to how much time I wanted to spend. Big difference, let me tell you!
I realized I was sinking tons of time into things that weren’t really important to me. Like, way too much time on social media, and not nearly enough on that online course I signed up for. It was a real eye-opener.
Putting It All Together (and Making Some Changes)
The last step was adjusting. I used my list with different ways.I started being more mindful of how I was spending my time. I set timers for certain tasks, blocked out time for important stuff in my calendar, and even tried (and sometimes failed) to limit my social media use.
It’s still a work in progress, obviously. But just the act of thinking about where my time goes, and how I want it to go, has made a huge difference. I feel like I have more control, even if I’m still not perfectly “allocated.”
So, that’s my “GTD Allocation” adventure for today. I’m going to keep at it, I found it’s pretty cool.
