Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this crazy idea, “rotting fruit of the alien tree,” and I gotta share the whole messy process. It started with a simple thought, kinda dumb, actually: What if aliens had fruit trees, but the fruit was, like, super weird?

First, I grabbed some clay – the air-dry kind, because I’m not patient enough for the oven stuff. I started rolling out these lumpy shapes, trying to make them look kinda fruit-like, but also… off. You know, not your everyday apple or banana.
Sculpting the “Fruit”
- Rolled out basic shapes: Think lumpy pears, squished spheres, things with weird bulges.
- Added texture: I used a toothpick and a fork to poke holes, make lines, and generally mess them up.
- Let them dry: This took forever, like a whole day. Air-dry clay is slow.
While the clay was drying, I started thinking about the “alien tree” part. I found this old, gnarled branch in my backyard – perfect! It already looked kinda creepy. I cleaned it up a bit, removing any loose bark and dirt.

Next, I prepared to paint this “fruit”. I like all kinds of colors, so I grab all the paint that I have!
Painting the “Fruit”
- I prepare all kinds of color!
Once the “fruit” was dry, it was time for the really fun part: making them look rotten. I mixed up some acrylic paints – greens, browns, yellows, even a little bit of purple. I wanted them to look like they were decaying, but in a colorful, alien way.
Detail Time: Rotten Goodness
- Splotched on the paint: No fancy techniques here, just dabbing and smearing.
- Added some gloss varnish: In some spots, to make them look kinda slimy.
- Used a black marker: To draw in some extra details, like weird veins or spots.
Finally, I stuck the “fruit” onto the branch. I used hot glue, because it’s fast and strong. I arranged them in a way that looked kinda random, like they’d just grown there. And that’s it! My “rotting fruit of the alien tree.” It’s weird, it’s messy, and I kinda love it.
It’s not perfect, but I love it.
